Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Nelson.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kelly. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m a wife of 14+ years and a mom of 2. I spent over 10 years in Corporate America as an Executive Assistant, building someone else’s dream, stressing about someone else’s deadlines and schedule. My husband took a chance on a business opportunity that started out as a cost savings for our family and grew into a full fledged business. Because of that, I was able to walk away from my corporate job and work alongside him. I’ve been out of the corporate world for the past six years and have had the incredible privilege and daunting task of being at home to raise our two kids. My husband and I now able to work side-by-side helping people transform their lives.
“What exactly do you do?” is something we get asked a lot! It’s simple…we help people transform their lives through health and fitness.
We have online workout solutions (think Netflix but for fitness!), we have nutritional supplements (shakes, smoothies, performance supplements for extreme and endurance athletes) and support that you won’t find in a big box gym – or even in the boutique gym sector (we provide support any time, anywhere in the world! – not just when you’re working out!).
I’m able to help other women peel off those old layers of themselves that they’ve piled on over the years and rediscover their greatness. And it’s not just about weight loss. We help people with mindset and motivation – overall how to bring out their true selves. It’s a beautiful thing to witness!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Ha – definitely not! I think every entrepreneur has to experience the highs and lows and we’re no exception! I used to let the lows stress me out, but now I’m able to see such an incredible peace and beauty in the low times. There are lessons to be learned in each season and I think it takes a level of maturity to be able to weather the storm of home business.
Advice… it’s easy to say “just hang in there and lean into it”, but if you’re in the middle of a stormy season, those words seem so empty. I think it’s important to go back to WHY you got involved with whatever you’re doing. When was it fun? Why was it fun? What were you doing that made it fun? What were those basic steps you took to build your business? Revisit those times and find the fun again. And I think it also takes some ego-dropping. When we’re successful in business, it’s easy for our pride and egos to grow as our businesses do. And for some, it’s hard to admit that they need to revisit the basics. But I don’t think there’s anything to be ashamed about saying “hey, I’m doing the first steps and I’m looking for people to do them with me”!
A successful business boils down to consistency – doing the basics over and over. Whether you’re the CEO of a multibillion-dollar hedge fund or the janitor at the local high school… there are tasks that you must repeat over and over in that role. So, why get high and mighty and think that you’re above that? Take a breath, let that ego deflate a little and go back to what worked the first time when it was fun and exciting… and keep doing those things!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My work changes daily and that’s what I love about it! As a work-at-home Mom, my schedule revolves around my family. Our clients understand that family is Priority One for us and the people who we choose to work with usually have those same values!
My day starts with quiet time and a workout (using our on demand fitness library done in the kids’ playroom or out at a park if it’s nice out!). Kids wake up and we have shakes and breakfast while getting ready to leave for school. The drive to and from school becomes a time where I can pop in my AirPods and listen to a podcast to get my mind right for the day.
Once home, I can check in with my clients – answer questions, post my videos to show that I’m putting in the work too, and let them know about any upcoming training that we’re hosting.
The beauty of what we do is that I can do it from my phone, so I’m not tied to a desk or a laptop. I can runaround after my kids, manage our household and still check in with clients, welcome new clients and even invite new people to join me on this journey all from my phone!
We chose to partner with Team Beachbody because it’s a brand that has solutions for people at every age and fitness level. We have options for kids (workouts and smoothies), we have solutions for beginners all the way through advanced extreme athletes. We have options for people who like to still go to the gym and we have options for people who live in a box and only have a yoga mat’s worth of space to move in!
I think the thing that sets us apart is the versatility in our offerings and that can be a good thing and a bad thing. Sometimes people get overwhelmed thinking they have to do it all or try it all or share it with EVERYONE! But I think that if you really take time to get to know people – deeply understand their needs and their goals, the solutions present themselves naturally. Sometimes, it’s as small as helping someone get a multivitamin that they like. Other times it’s working with a small boutique company to get their office started on a health and fitness initiative that includes streaming workouts and shakes. We have the flexibility to work with anyone.
The other thing that sets us apart is that this isn’t a quick fix. So many companies out there exist to make a quick buck off people. That’s not us. We see this as a journey. You’re inviting us into your life. We become part of YOUR journey. We’re in this with you for the long haul. Our services don’t end when you click “BUY NOW”. That’s when our real journey together starts. I. myself, have lost over 50 pounds twice and my husband is a 100-pound weight loss success, so we have experience in weight loss. But if you’d have known us 10 years ago before we began our business, you’d know that we’re completely transformed people. Our physical bodies have changed – but so have our mindsets. And that’s what we want to help others discover. It’s not about the number on the scale – it’s about finding the best you and letting that shine!
Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
For sure. I grew up with a rare disease called dermatomyositis. It’s a skin disease that affects the muscles – it’s relative to juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. My twin sister and I both came down with it when we were five years old, so we’ve always been extremely thin.
Growing up we were teased for the way we looked. I was extremely self-conscious even into adulthood. I shied away from wearing skirts or shorts because I could hear the whispers or see the stares of strangers who passed by.
In a world that is filled with obesity and disordered eating, I understand where these people are coming from.
I understand the hurtful comments from trolls – I STILL get them!
I understand the desire to have a solution but the fear of not knowing where to start or nowadays what to trust.
I understand that this is a LONG journey and not a quick fix.
I know it is uncomfortable and scary to start something like a fitness journey or a journey to better your nutrition.
I understand the struggles that come with this journey – the fluctuations of the scale, the judgment of others close to you and even from strangers.
And I understand it because I’ve lived it – and I’m still living it. And those painful times are what fuel me to want to help even more people.
This world is cruel enough. We should be able to take a breath and love ourselves where we are on this journey. And that’s what I love to do – love on others in the midst of their journeys.
