Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Swarner.
Kim, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I had the idea of starting a blog for several years, I just didn’t know how to make it happen. I have a love for pink, fashion, and helping others who struggle with anxiety or other mental health disorders. Almost a year ago, I launched, “Purpose In The Pink – Living Colorfully amidst adversity” and it has been such a joy getting to share my heart, my faith, my style and all things pink with people on Instagram, Facebook or on my website, www.kimswarner.com. I am connecting with so many wonderful people including other bloggers any strangers that share the same struggles as me. It is an amazing feeling knowing that I can encourage, help or inspire others to be themselves and be real in this social media arena we live in today.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Absolutely not. In the beginning, I had no idea what I was doing! It is still a learning process even now. I have definitely fallen into the trap of comparison – comparing myself to other bloggers. Thinking I am not skinny enough, pretty enough or even strong enough to be vulnerable and share a big part of my life with others. Advice I would give to others, especially to women, would be to take breaks from social media whenever necessary! Your mental health is way more important. I think there is room for ALL of us. We are all unique and beautiful in our own ways and we should support each other as best as we can! Be bold, be brave, but most importantly, be YOU.
We’d love to hear more about Purpose In The Pink.
I write about my mental health struggles, offer advice, talk about my faith and love for Jesus, share my lifestyle, & my feminine and girly fashion sense through a partnership with LikeToKnow. It all on www.kimswarner.com. I think most people would say I am known for my love of all things pink and Jesus. I am proud of my brand because I don’t want to change ME for anyone else. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, and that’s OK! I think what sets me apart is the fact that I want to be real with others, to all my followers. Sure, I have tons of pictures of me smiling or wearing a cute outfit, but I hope people see beyond the smile!
We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
In my opinion, the biggest barriers to female leadership would be the lack of opportunities. Don’t get me wrong, we have come a long way, which is so encouraging, but we have a lot of work to do! Women, including myself, have a lot to say and want to be taken seriously. I believe there is room for all women, no matter what shape size or ethnicity!
