Meet Trailblazer Lindsay Itani

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Itani.

Lindsay, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Everything started with a design class in high-school where I discovered my talents for art, design, and creativity. I decided I wanted to make a career of those passions and got my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Texas State University.

After graduation, I was working for about a year doing web design which I absolutely loved. However, I felt like something was missing. Adventure maybe? I saved up some money, quit my steady job, and moved to Australia on a working holiday visa. I sent my resume to every design company I could find and ended up getting a job at a digital marketing agency in Melbourne. I think that is one of my most memorable experiences that has shaped my career and who I am today. It was heartbreaking when my visa came to an end and I had to head back home but I will cherish those memories forever.

Upon returning to Texas, I did freelance work for about a year and then landed the job I have now as a graphic designer for Neora, an innovative skincare, and wellness company.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course, there were challenges. The reason I was freelancing for a year after being in Australia is that I was having a hard time finding a job that aligned with my values and what I wanted to be working on. I got so many rejections because I didn’t have enough experience at the time. Don’t give up and don’t sell yourself short.

If you are miserable at work do yourself a favor and quit your job. Go on an adventure, take some time off, travel the world, meet new people, learn something new, and explore your passions.

What do you do? What do you specialize in?
My favorite thing to do is web design but I’m lucky to have the opportunity to work on a variety of things such as event branding, social media campaigns, product launches, and photography.

Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
Don’t be shy! Go to your company happy hours, ask people out to lunch, offer to help others, and be kind.

I love to find events on Facebook to help me become more involved in the community and meet new people!
