Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Om.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Lisa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a professional Microblading and Permanent Make-up artist based out of Dallas, Texas.
My journey started like everyone who has to get up early each morning, stand around in front of a mirror trying to look vibrant, pray there are no traffic jams, and sit behind a computer all day waiting until what seemed like eternity for the clock to tick grudgingly to 5:00 pm. I would rush out of my work building like a schoolgirl as if the school bell released us to jump into my car only to find the inevitable traffic jam waiting for me as it wasted an hour of precious sunlight. By the time I made it home, I was tired and exhausted. Before I knew it, the day escaped me and I found myself going to work the next day with the same conference calls and meetings. I thought to myself, “This is no way to live, there must be more to life than this.”
I was right. There is so much more to life than this mundane lifestyle. I realized as long as I keep working the corporate ladder, I will never grow and reach my full potential. I knew I couldn’t just quit as I have bills and rent to pay. But I also knew that I was falling into the trap that so many of us fall in where we “live to work.” I want my time and work on this planet to mean something. I knew it was time for me to start living, and on my own terms.
I had to look deep inside myself and ask, “Where do you see yourself being happy?” I was always inspired by art, beauty, and fashion which is why I originally went into the field of architecture. But was I prepared to start a new path after spending so many years in this field of work and incurring a year’s salary worth of student loans?
It then hit me. Why not incorporate both worlds? As women, we want to look and feel vibrant and beautiful. We will spend however much time in front of a mirror to achieve that certain look. As a woman, I know the time and labor it takes to get ready each morning. As a woman in architecture, I know the importance and value of a steady hand capable of precision and perfection. With the emergence of social media, I can see women from around the world are tasked with the same daily morning rituals of trying to create a perfect brow.
I come from a Korean background whose culture encourages beauty and perfection. I then realized my ethnic background, the years of hard work in the architectural profession, and the trials and tribulations of being a woman have equipped me with the tools necessary to launch my new career: Microblading & Permanent Make-Up.
Since I have a steady hand and an eye for detail coming from the architectural world, I started my business, “LINES BY OM.” My brand must follow my style: Modern, clean, and simple. My service allows women and men to wake up with perfect, natural-looking brows, eyes, and lips without applying a single stroke of make-up.
Has it been a smooth road?
It was naturally a frightening experience to leave my job and start something completely different by myself. It was definitely challenging at first in starting a new business and trying to market a brand virtually unknown to the public. But patience and having a flair for social media paid off. I created my own website and studied my competition closely. I wanted to offer a service different than anyone else, but most importantly I wanted to create a brand that reflects me and my style. A brand that is not only unique but invigorating to every woman and man who is trying to achieve their maximum potential with little time to spare.
Was the road smooth to starting my new line of work? Not even close and that’s what made it all worth it. My advice to anyone starting their own journey is to ask themselves can they see themselves doing the same type of work in another 5 years? Will their product or service be relevant 5 years from now? It is important to be realistic with the product or service you are offering. You should be just as passionate with your work 5 years from now just as you are today.

At LINES BY OM, I specialize in creating a special look that one can only hope to accomplish by applying cosmetic makeup. Thanks to my previous experience in architecture that requires a steady hand and the utmost attention to detail, my work stands apart from any other artist as I apply absolute precision and perfection when creating the ideal look tailored to my client’s facial features. Essentially, I enhance the beauty of my client’s profile to resemble the purest and most natural look. Not everyone is born with plush eyebrows, but rest assure each client walks out of my studio with exquisite eyebrows sure to bring envy.
Depending on the client’s preference, I provide a variety of different techniques such as permanent eyebrows, eyeliners, lips, and even will add a natural beauty mark and freckles. To not sound cliché, my work is my passion and I’m loving how much happier and younger people literally look and feel when they walk out of my studio. There is no other wonder face cream, cucumbers, forbidden fruit, or secret remedy that can shed years off my client’s face like my hands can. My work of art is here to stay. My work is vogue and so to everyone reading this, I say, “Strike a pose!”
