Today we’d like to introduce you to Loren Sanders.
So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I launched my blog as a birthday gift to myself so that I could create a safe space to express myself how I saw myself. Here we are, six months later and Lavishly Loren is live and in full motion! Lavishly Loren collectively is a lifestyle blog that focuses on fashion, travel, & reflection. My initial blueprint or intention for my blog was to use it as a creative outlet and public journal in a way. Little did I know, that by sharing my challenges and experiences, I would be encouraging other women as well offering styling services.
Has it been a smooth road?
Prior to my launch, I sat and thought for months about how I wanted to express myself, what is my real purpose, and what tool or platform should I share both. Often times, social media has a funny way of making things look peachy perfect when behind the scenes it’s really creative chaos. I wanted to be sure I was being my true self because it’s important to be relatable and genuine to who you are. As a Blogger, you have this pressure to continuously produce content. Which leads me to one of my challenges as a new blogger. I’ve had a few challenges. One challenge is freeing myself creatively. As a Blogger, you want to be relatable and sometimes you can get caught up in the “am I sharing too much” or comparing your art to other Bloggers or Creators. Truthfully, this is a constant ongoing challenge. As a person and as a blogger, you’re constantly evolving and offering a certain level of vulnerability that you normally don’t offer up. I think that requires a unique type of courage.
For anyone reading this and thinking of starting a blog or anything new, my advice to other women is to find a tribe of supporters outside of your initial friendship circle. Start attending events centered on your goals or business. This way you surround yourself with like-minded people and open up more opportunities to collaborate. Stay consistent with your content, your goals, and building your brand. Lastly, stay genuine and step out of your comfort zone.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m a Recruiter by profession and a Blogger & Stylist by passion. One thing that sets “Lavishly Loren” apart is Lavishly Loren is a “trend-savvy and budget-friendly” blog centered around everything travel, beauty, reflection, and slay. The goal of Lavishly Loren is to inspire, share and empower others to live their best “Lavish” life, frugally.
What I love most is that my brand was created by me. It’s all me, authentically. It’s not a “cookie-cutter” my life is so perfect blog. It’s me being flawed, it’s me traveling, it’s me helping other women with their style, and it’s me being frugally fashionable. It’s me displaying my digital ode to self-love in an eclectic way and I get to take people on the journey with me every day.
We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
I have been very fortunate to be around a lot of genuine women that are positive and want to see me win. They truly believe in collaboration over competition. Unfortunately, this is not always the story for other women, regardless of the industry. The biggest barriers in most industries involving women are that some women feel like they can only shine if they stand alone, but you actually shine brighter when you stand in numbers. Just because someone has the same goal or content doesn’t mean that you can’t collaborate with them, spend two minutes to give some advice, or offer encouraging words to help them perfect their art. I think we need more leadership to call out this toxic mindset and make it more of a norm to collaborate versus just talking about it.
