Meet Trailblazer Melanie Pires

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melanie Pires.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Melanie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I first started blogging in 2015, my final year at university. I was interested in writing and fashion, so why not do both. I also realized that I had a really get niche – petite fashion or fashion for petite women. People would always ask me where I got my clothes from because they could never find anything that fit them. I started styling clothes that I already had in my closet and found similar styles for people from different stores in different sizing.

Then, I started to include more beauty products as I got more involved with my blog. I wanted to share everything that I found and loved, products that really worked or didn’t and why I use certain products over others.

As my life changed, I started to include more lifestyle content and I figured that others could relate more to it that way – I wasn’t always showing the perfectly curated photos, I show the raw content, too.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have definitely been bumps in the road.
Some of those bumps include having close friends tell me that blogging and staying active on social media is a huge responsibility and that it’s too expensive, that bloggers and influencers are fake and are ruining public places like restaurants. I’ve had friends make fun of me and other bloggers at a private event that they attended with me. My advice to younger women who are just starting their journey is that you’ll get to see who truly is your friend when you’re doing well and when you’re not. Don’t let other people hold you back from doing what makes you happy or from accomplishing goals that are taking you in the direction of your dreams.

Another bump in the road is brands or people that try to take advantage of those who are just starting out. My advice for this would be to know your worth and don’t be afraid to turn brands or agencies down when something isn’t a good fit. Your fans and followers will respect you more if you aren’t constantly posting “ads” that you don’t believe in. Stay true to you and your brand.

Also, finding the motivation and time to work on my blog after coming from my full time, 8-5 job is difficult. But, I believe that people always find and make time for what they are passionate about. So, if you want to succeed and you want to build your brand, stop making up excuses. Learn to manage your time wisely and make it happen.

Please tell us about Petite Moda – what should we know?
I’m a fashion, beauty and lifestyle blogger. I love to share everything from style and beauty to my favorite foods and places to go. I share what inspires me in hopes to encourage others to pursue their dreams and do what makes them happy.

We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
I think some of the barriers to female leadership today are lack of confidence and being treated equally.
