Meet Trailblazer Michaela Paskell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michaela Paskell.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I fell in love with doing hair in high school and even did a couple weddings back then. Lol, now, I cringe at those pictures… I decided to go to cosmetology school in College Station, and one of my really good friends inspired me to learn more about makeup. I started working at an awesome salon after school, where they helped support me in becoming a better artist and continuing my hair-cation.

My husband got a job in Plano, so we moved to DFW, and that’s when I decided I wanted to pursue hair and makeup on my own. Weddings were always my favorite thing while working at the salon, and I love the high-stress environment, so naturally, I have been focusing on bridal beauty.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a relatively smooth road, but just understand that it takes time to get going in this industry (not that I’m even close to there yet…).

Spend your time starting out learning from professionals, and have a mentor to help you out. I loved working in a salon environment starting out because there were several more experienced people to learn from.

Invest in resources that will help you gain attention, take every opportunity to take classes to further your education, keep up with the trends!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Hair and Makeup By Michaela – what should we know?
I specialize in bridal hair and makeup, and I am a licensed cosmetologist.

Many people know me for my bohemian style, my braids, and my ability to do quick but beautiful up-dos.
I am most proud of my ability to deal with clients on what can be such a stressful day for brides, and make them feel beautiful and that the investment in me was worth it.

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
There are so many opportunities for women, and I believe it is important to follow your passions and never settle for anything. The bridal industry is majorly women service providers, so we just have to be encouraging of each other and realize someone else’s talent and success doesn’t threaten our own.
