Meet Trailblazer Monica Woodhams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Woodhams.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Monica. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started my blog back in the early days of blogging (around 2009/2010) when I was a student at Texas Christian University. It was a creative outlet but I never saw it becoming a career path because it was so early in the game. I studied PR at TCU and wanted to focus my career on fashion PR. This led me to work for Neiman Marcus in the corporate offices where ultimately, I was promoted to Assistant Buyer for NM.com and BergdorfGoodman.com. During this time, I missed the creative outlet that my blog gave me so I decided to re-launch it. I started to meet people who were doing this full-time and ultimately realized that I wanted to turn mine into a business as well. I moved to Los Angeles so that I could get work experience working for startups so that I could learn what it takes to have a business straight from startup owners. As I grew in this space, I realized that so many influencers wanted support around social media and PR and I was a go-to resource for that and my blog transistioned into me supporting clients with their PR. This past year, I started to crave the personal interaction that is now rare on Instagram and launched my podcast Influencer Girl Lifestyle where I interview influencers, celebrities, and business owners with global brands who have their products in places liek Target, Sephora, and Whole Foods.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. For a long time, I was taking a windy road trying to figure out where the core of my income needed to come from in my business. Along the way, I tried different priorities from brand partnerships to social media strategy, to coaching. Ultimately I realized my strength lies in my PR and branding strategy for small business owners and influencers.

When it comes to starting your journey, the biggest advice I have is even if you’re not doing what the end goal is – to know that all experience is going to help you in the long run. Even if you can’t figure out how and what you’re doing right now is relevant to your end goal, you’ll start to find down the road that the skills you picked up there actually are relevant.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Confessions Media – what should we know?
I specialize in PR and podcast management. Confessions Media has a network of podcasts that it supports in launching and managing and on the PR side of things we pitch clients to be guests on podcasts primarily. What sets us apart from others is that we focus on podcasting over any other media outlets. I’m so proud of the podcasts that I have launched an increased reach and notoriety my clients have received as a result of being regular guests on podcasts even if they don’t have their own.

Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
I love podcasts that are a lifestyle and funny podcats because it helps to lighten up my day, especially when I’m working solo from home. I love all the podcasts by Betches. I also love The Kimberly Wenya Podcast and FohrCasts to help me be more productive at work.
