Today we’d like to introduce you to Raeesa Habeeb.
Raeesa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Hi there! I was always into fashion and make-up growing up. I loved going shopping, sharing what I bought and helping my friends style whatever was in their wardrobe. I even used my sister as a model when she was 5 to do an at home photoshoot using whatever was in my mom’s closet. I got into makeup when I was in high school and loved doing makeup on my friends and taking pictures. When I met my husband, Harun, he told me he was always into photography but never got the motivation to take it anywhere. He likes to tell me that I was his muse and we first started shooting using his old camera. I would plan out my outfits and choose a place I wanted to be photographed at, while we were living Manhattan at the time. It was a learning process for both of us, to get the lighting right, finding the right lens and focusing the camera and finding applications to edit the pictures. But, it was something that we did together, something to look forward to and we really enjoyed it. My husband, being the supportive and mastermind behind my blog. encouraged me to write down my thoughts and start up my blog which is what I ended up doing and launched Stylenstroll in May 2017.
I received a lot of positive feedback from my friends and family and started to grow a small following. I don’t focus a lot on the numbers and how many people I reach. I am happy sharing the knowledge which I think could motivate someone to get dressed up, take care of themselves, cook up a little recipe or at least break a smile on their face by going through my Instagram or blog. If I can spread a little bit of happiness in a stranger, I know I’ve done what I intended to do.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I was very excited in sharing what I knew with my audience! So, in the beginning the excitement took over and I loved every moment of it. It is quite time consuming from getting ready, planning out outfits and looks, taking pictures, editing them and posting them up on the blog in a creative post. If it is something that you love doing, it will show in your work. So make sure you’re doing it for you, not for anyone else or to increase your following. Always come back to the root, the reason why you started doing what you are doing. That helps me put out content I am proud of. I would’t call them haters but people who are not happy with what you are doing will feel like messaging you and writing something mean so you could feel bad. I try not to let that get to me, instead, I think that they’re coming from a place where they’re happy and they see someone who from the outside looks like they got their life together (which is absolutely not the case for anyone in this world), and the so called “haters” feel the need to drop a bit of negativity so they can feel good about themselves. I say ignore it, and don’t pay too much time on them, instead focus on the people who are always there for you and focus on yourself. You keep doing you and as long as you have the right intention and you are not harming anyone, you are enough.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Stylenstroll @raeesa.habeeb – what should we know?
My blog is called Stylenstroll which is where I share my looks that I feel can be easily accomplished by young women from whatever is in their wardrobe. I want to help women who see my blog be confident in themselves. I would like to put out a message that looking good is part of feeling good and taking care of yourself and self love should be priority number one in your book. I also share my travel posts and vlogs that my husband and I record, edit and upload onto our YouTube channel where my followers and friends can feel like they can know me more on a personal level. I share beauty and makeup tips on my blog as well based on what my followers need help with. I also share recipes that I think are easy and do-able for a normal person like myself who is a true super foodie at heart.
There are plenty of blogs out there and Instagram personalities, but there is no one quite like yourself. We all have something to share with the world so why not do it in a creative way. I want young women to feel like they can accomplish things, I want to help them guide their way into how they can carry themselves. Inspiration is everywhere.
Which women have inspired you in your life?
There are plenty of women that have inspired me in my life and the most important one is my mother and now, my mother in law as well. Both are strong women who have been through the most in their lives and came out strong. They are literal angels and it amazes me that they can smile through anything that goes on which inspires me to be as strong and not let things get me down. Nothing, no feeling is permanent and you will feel sadness just like you feel happiness.
