Meet Trailblazer Shea Scott

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shea Scott.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Shea. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am the owner of SheLuvLashes iBeauty Academy Located in DeSoto. We Offer TDLR Accredited Programs including 320- Hour Eyelash Extensions Specialty License, 500 Hour Instructor’s Program and 750 Hour Instructor’s Program (for any Beauty/Barber License).  I have been a lash artist for going on four years now. I actually had an article two years ago with Voyage so this is amazing to happen again into my next level, I do appreciate it.

I noticed in 2017 that I loved training others in the lash industry. I began my instructor’s program in Sept 2017 and really did not take it into consideration before I started, I just did it. But during that time, I experienced the passing of loved ones for nearly every week within 1 month and also lost my car two weeks after I started the program. With so much on me at that time, I literally was in an emotional whirlwind and I spoke with someone I once considered a mentor and she looked at me and told me “Well, you need to just quit the program then.” Ummm, that’s when my brain mentally let go and it took 2months before my attitude switched. It went from “Oh, I think I want to do the the program to Im training like crazy and I have to make this work.” December, I ran a crazy special $250 for a certification class and had nine people register. I NEVER trained that many ppl at one time. So, I’m excited and nervous at the same time. I had a lash suite that was about 650 sq feet and I MADE IT WORK! From there, I literally had a certification class every two weeks from December 2017 until March 2018. I was in awe with teaching and I knew this was my next step.

I completed my instructor’s program without a car, pushing through life, rearranged my clients in addition to being a single mother and finished 750 hours within five months. I went to class nearly every day all day until the doors locked and lights were off. I was determined and at that moment. I began to see and experience others looking to me for inspiration and positive energy, so I knew I couldn’t quit. Plus, my kids saw me start, so failure was no option. I needed to increase to better my family.

It took four times for me to take the state exam. Yes four! I don’t feel I was properly trained and I had to grasp  it myself,  read to get more knowledge but it took two weeks of stress and when I passed, I jumped and cried for joy. I told myself NO ONE WILL TRAIN UNDER ME with experiences I went through or me not having the knowledge and skills to help them push through and not become discouraged.

I prayed, wrote out a plan and visioned actually working in someone’s school as an instructor. I was offered two places but they were not a good fit for me. I spoke to a lady with a cosmetology school during the summer and asked her about me starting the program there under her and learning. She told me “You need to do it on your own. I know you can.” Mind you, I never knew this lady and had only met her once. And from speaking with her, she saw something in me, I was a bit hesitant to see and mainly because I did not have money, enough of it nor the experience to run an entire school. I met with her for a month almost every week and she guided me. I was so thankful. I looked for a building space but nothing suited what I wanted.

A friend of mine told me of a location in DeSoto area. in which I had visited months earlier but she had no prior knowledge of it. I called the realtor and he told me that same space was untouched because he wanted something “special” in that location. I prayed, prayed more and kept my mouth QUIET…

Everything circulated for me. God made it possible for my vision, with pennies in my pockets. I know My kids inspire me to be better! My followers keep me lifted (even though I inspire them) and I feel this is my ministry: lashing and providing another woman with an opportunity to learn to legally run a business and be THE effective business- Licensed Eyelash Extensions Technician.

Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely NOT! I had minimal help, mentally, physically and financially. I chose I was not going to allow speaking my Vision to someone else dismantle what I wanted. I always tell others to move as God says. I literally wanted to give up two weeks before I was approved. I started being discouraged, Money wasn’t adding up, I was paying for two suites and a new building in addition to being a mother and TaShea. I slept one night and prayed before I closed my eyes for God to please reveal to me in three days, what’s my next level. That night, I saw myself standing in my school EXACTLY how it looks now. The most peaceful sleep I had in months. I woke up with chills and I told myself to keep going. I went on a spiritual fast, intermittent fast and was also praying along the way. I finally spoke with my granny, who blessed me more than she knows. I was relieved for the extra amazing support.

I like to say do not allow the notion that having little money, inexperience or FEAR to stop you from what you continue to get pushed into. Embrace it with your head high and speak it.l into existence.

It took me four times to pass my state exam. I studied and was determined. I became the 4th Licensed Cosmetology Lash Instructor in the DFW area.

I literally filed my business name two months before I knew I had a location. I just knew I didn’t want my name to be taken, lol. I also started saving old lashes, old glue and collecting stuff because I told myself: “My students can use this at the school.” And smiled.

SheLuvLashes iBeauty Academy specializes in Eyelash Extensions Specialty License Program. Once you complete your 320 clocked hours, you will sit for your state board exams: written and practical. We also offer Lash Extensions services to clients as a walk in or scheduled appointment with one of our Students.

*You do have to be licensed in the state of Texas to legally provide eyelash extensions services. Certifications are only valid for a Licensed Cosmetologist or Esthetician.

I am most proud of being a young, black, Master degree’d and Beauty Instructor in addition to being a single mother who was determined for greater and didn’t stop, still haven’t.  I wouldn’t allow life’s challenges- good or bad- detour me from my ultimate destination.

I’m still growing and building. I allow my humbleness and inspiration to lead my business and allow others to see it is possible. I wasn’t given a silver spoon, I wasn’t given anything. I DID it with no car, very minimal help with my babies, lack of sleep, medical ailments, low money, and heartbreaks. But I knew I was destined for better.

I also love to inspire and give motivation to anyone, male or female. I am transparent as a person and instructor. I am hard but I also put myself in their position and wonder how we can fix it opposed to not understanding.

Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
Oh absolutely! I was “isolated” from the cliques and groups oftentimes growing up. I always felt like a loner in the midst of others. I learned being a team player due to playing basketball from elementary to college.

Also dealt with trauma and disappointments as a kid that trickled over to my strength, knowing to push through even if I had to be silent on my own. But I learned to never give up. At some point, your worth and value show itself to know that you’re enough even when you are counted out. But what I will say is My granny, mother, sister, and Daddy Claude never let me slip up and they do not today. The support I know comes from them even if I feel at times, it doesn’t. Those are my dependables.
