Meet Trailblazer Sudha Srinivasamoorthy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sudha Srinivasamoorthy.

Sudha, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am an Engineer and I was working in an IT firm as a Web page developer for seven years before taking a break. Baking has been my creative outlet and hobby. It all started around 2013 when I started trying out basic recipes and started baking simple cakes in a pressure cooker and sharing with friends from the office. Later on, break from my IT job left me with a lot of spare time and I started baking more often. That’s when I realized my happy place lies in Baking and cake decorating and what started as a hobby turned into passion. I started documenting my Baking Journey in a blog and my Instagram account tummytaleswithsudha. To quote my idol Julia child here, “Find something you are passionate about and keep tremendously interested in it” is what I follow. I am loving this journey so far and forever thankful to my spouse who supports my crazy dreams and a couple of friends who have always been my backbone.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When you try to take up something different, you definitely face a lot of challenges and so did I. I am a self-taught baker, mostly learning from YouTube, other food blogs and Internet has been my teacher. Sometimes, I end up with baking failures or creative block but I never give up. I just keep trying until I get it right as the failures teach us much more than anything else. Persistence and patience is a must to thrive in any field, one can’t achieve their goals or be successful overnight, we just need to work for it. If you find something which lifts up your soul, brings you immense joy don’t give up on that, keep pursuing as far as you can go.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I am a stay at home Mom for an Energetic 5-year-old girl. I love to bake and decorate cakes, develop/try recipes with fusion of both Indian and western flavors. I love doing fresh/whipped cream cakes instead of Buttercream, as the flavors are much closer to the bakeries we find in India. Learning new things, exploring and experimenting, creating cake decorating videos and content has become my routine. I bake for the joy it brings and to see people’s smiles when they see or take a bite of my cakes.

We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
Women, in general, are good at multi-tasking and managing. But the only issue I feel is there is a level of judgment in the society about working women/stay at home mom/business owner women. Like when I was a working mom, I have faced judgments for leaving my child at daycare. Later on, when I quit and took the role of being a stay at home mom, there were questions of why. So, whatever we do, we got to face judgment.
