Meet Trailblazer Susie Robb

Today we’d like to introduce you to Susie Robb.

Susie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was a mom to two young children when my marriage fell apart. I needed to go back to work and with a background in inventory management, I landed a job as a store manager for a small home décor boutique.
After a year and a half, I bought the business and just recently rebranded. I created an interior design studio to be part of the shop, and I have owned them both for almost two years now.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a lot of trial and error. A lot of failures, and small victories. I have struggled financially, but I believe investments are a key piece in perseverance. If I hadn’t invested so much into this business, I think I would have quit when things got tough. But because this business is my livelihood, I knew I had to keep going. Keep putting one foot in front of the other.

To anyone out there thinking of starting out on their own, I would say, give yourself a ton of grace. You may not know what you’re doing at first, so don’t expect total perfection. Lean into all the lessons and keep gathering every experience to make yourself better and more successful.

Please tell us about From: Susie – what should we know?
From: Susie is about people. We are working with makers at the local level to develop products that are exclusive to our shop. They are made here in Texas by Texans and support local families.
Our product offerings are designed to be unique as we also offer antiques and one-of-a-kind vintage pieces.

We also offer turn-key interior design services. We have a vast range of décor jobs to full-blown remodels scattered throughout Texas. Most of our projects have a story much larger than pretty interiors.

My “why” is to inspire and encourage. The face of the brand is a single mom who overcame tragedy and has garnered success in the home decor industry, paying it forward along the way.

Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
I was a dancer most of my childhood and adolescence. Movement has always been a part of my life and my favorite form of expression. I find the home to be a place of creative movement. Personal styles evolve and change over time. Whether it be the turning of seasons, the birth of a new baby or they move to a new town… our homes and our lives are always shifting and I have come to love and embrace that.

Walking through love and loss and my painful divorce created a strength in me I never knew I had. I also believe the prayers of so many people, my family mostly, has given me divine favor in my successes.
