Today we’d like to introduce you to Tram Trinh.
Tram, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born in a family that values education, so my parents always wanted us to at least finish University. When I finished high school, of course, I had to go straight to University. When I was 18, my aunt owned a very busy Permanent Make-up Salon. I became very interested in the work she was doing. I asked her if I could possibly learn how to do it? She said “Yes of course. You can do anything if you love what you do.” From that point on, I started to learn permanent make-up training while attending school full-time. I found that I really love this kind of work.
I practiced on a lot of latex practice skins and moved on to live models. Finally, I obtained my License to be a Permanent Make-up Artist and worked part-time at my aunt’s salon. After I graduated from University, I decided to go work at a bank full-time. This was to make my parents happy. I would work at the bank and I would do Permanent Make-up part-time. I knew that working at the bank did not make me happy, so I quit and decided to do Permanent Make-up full-time.
In 2010, I moved to the United States. I had to start over in my career. My parents wanted me to obtain a degree in the US, but I knew I had to do things differently this time to make me happy. My parents and I had a very serious discussion and they understood that being a Permanent Make-up was my dream job and they supported me. I immediately obtained cosmetology and started courses for permanent make-up licensing. I learned from different famous Permanent Make-Up artists in different states. I wanted to know everything I can and obtain all the right licenses. I eventually got my Permanent Make-Up artist license and opened my own studio.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There were many struggles but I’m very blessed. I had experience and licenses in Vietnam, but when I moved to the US I had to start all over. It was costly to start all over but with the help of my family, I was able to take courses to obtain my US licenses. Not only did I have to start over in my career, but I also had to relearn English. When I was a kid in Vietnam, they taught English, but in a British tone. I had to take ESL classes in order to learn American English. It was very hard to learn English while trying to get my Permanent Make-Up License. I wanted to give up but I always looked back and think about where I started and where I wanted to be and this kept me going.
Starting your own business is very hard. Without the help of family and friends, I wouldn’t be where I am today. My clients are very special to me as well. Most of my clientele come from previous clients who have recommended/suggested to me. I am very thankful for all my clients. Without family, friends, and amazing clients and their constant support, I would not be able to keep doing what I love.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am the owner of Jasmine Brows. My studio specializes in Ombre Brows, Microblading, Microshading Brows, Permanent Cosmetic Eyeliner and Lips. It is a way to get up feeling good about how you look and to make your life easier.
I totally understand that clients are very nervous when they decided to get permanent makeup. We always have consultation to explain the whole procedure at the beginning of the appointment. There are a few factors that help us determine what services and techniques are best for each client: SKIN TYPE & LIFESTYLE. I will take some pictures and draw eyebrow designs with a pencil. I am very conservative about the shape and always try to save as much hair as possible. When the client saw the shape and completely satisfied, I will proceed with the procedure. I use topical anesthetics before and during the procedure to keep clients comfortable. The sensation of pain will vary between clients. Once the topical anesthetic takes effect, many clients report that they feel no discomfort during the brow procedures. Aftercare instructions will be provided to clients at the end of the appointment.
What sets me apart from others is that I use a technique that is not tattooing. The technique I use creates a very soft and natural look for permanent cosmetic make-up. Many women are scared of tattooed make-up. They are afraid that it would come out to harsh or won’t look natural at all. However, with my technique, they are very satisfied with my work. They are so happy that they continue to recommend me to their friends.
I am most proud of the results I can give my clients. I’ve had clients who have absolutely love my work and cried because they were so happy. I want to always give my clients this happy feeling. This is why I continue to learn and keep up with new techniques that will help me be a better Permanent Make-Up Artist. I want to offer my clients the best of me.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
For me, success is not how rich you are, success is happiness. “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.“ I am very happy because I do what I love and I enjoy every moment that I am working. When I make my clients happy, that’s my success. People are messaging me about a training course. I am working on sharing my experiences and techniques with anyone who would like to learn. I want to share my failures and successes. I hope that this will help others have a shorter road to their success.
