Meet Trenette Wilson of National Association of Urban Etiquette Professionals in Cedar Hill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trenette Wilson.

Trenette, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
With 20 years of experience in nonprofit management, program development, and funding, I left my full-time job at the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas in 2009 to found the National Association of Urban Etiquette Professionals. As a former teenage parent, I was committed to impacting the lives of young ladies, but the deeper I got into the field, the more I found our girls were lacking basic social and business skills. As a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, I had learned some social graces training, but I went on to get certified in etiquette.

To date, NAUEP has become the largest etiquette association in the nation serving urban communities providing more than 2,000 classes annually nationwide. Through this etiquette journey, I have authored over 57 etiquette books with my newest release. Bougie Girl Chronicles targeting girl 10-12 years old.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Shifting a complete business structure is never easy. One of the biggest struggles I had was helping people understand the value of $$ etiquette. Once I was able to help them understand the importance of soft skills, as well as define it in terms they understood, like customer service, professionals development and brand development and management, the gates began to swing open!

National Association of Urban Etiquette Professionals – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The National Association of Urban Etiquette Professionals (NAUEP) is the largest etiquette association in the nation providing etiquette, debutante and life skills training in urban communities. Founded in 2009, NAUEP has grown to 175 certified etiquette professionals who provide workshops and camps to over 10,000 youth annually. I am most proud that we target urban communities, which definitely sets us apart.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success, to me is defined as a life that is filled with peace, love and laughter! It is not tied to the car you drive or the house you live, though these things are markers of good business decisions, stewardship and skill, but are tenuous and can change in an instant. Success is when I can lay down at night and know that my family is well, and I have not intentionally hurt or hindered anyone along the way. The markers are my smile, my peace and the love that surrounds me.
