Meet Trey Chapman of Trey’s Chow Down in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trey Chapman.

Trey, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My family has been in Texas for 166 years. We were here before Texas was Texas! We’ve been in the ranching business for 166 years and the restaurant business for 100 years. In the early 1900s, our first restaurant was called Lacy’s. The Chapmans were operating a farm-to-table restaurant back when farm-to-table was the only way you could operate. They had several restaurant concepts and opened Quality Meat and Provisions Company in 1938, in Fort Worth.

Fast forward through the years… After I graduated from a Military Academy, I moved back to Fort Worth briefly, then to California to do a seven-year restaurant stent working for Pizza Hut, Little Caesars, and Wendy’s International in various management and operation programs.

I went back to the family restaurant operations of Chapman Foods, and Chapman Fast Foods which operated in fast-food, sit-down, and 4-Star restaurants. During my 40 years in the restaurant business, I have done everything in the business including restaurant operations, site locations, construction ground-up, remodel, business planning and development.

When the family sold out in early 2005, I decided to become a positive food critic, writer, blogger, and food show host to help other foodies. Suddenly Trey’s Chow Down was born and away it went. I started writing about food, restaurants, and chefs. I utilized blogging as an outlet. It was very natural to me because I lived in this business my whole life.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’ has been a long journey, but worth it. I always found a way to stay determined and focused on doing better.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Trey’s Chow Down story. Tell us more about the business.
We created Trey’s Chow Down, treyschowdown.com, Trey’s Chow Down T.V. and Drink with Trey. I travel in search of the best culinary experiences in Dallas-Fort Worth and Austin, Texas. The outlets of Trey’s Chow Down produce an entertaining and delightful look into Texas food culture.

We write articles/blogs to keep our audience updated through website and social media. Since then, we have become one of the largest ALL food, restaurant, and foodie information sites in DFW area. Where averaging 40,000 visits a month, and the numbers are climbing.

Our foodie blogs are re-shared and read in the thousands. People visit us for restaurant, drinks, and chef information all day long. I believe in lifting the veil between customer and chef to create a more entertaining dining experience.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
There was no luck involved. All hard work, broken knuckles, and dedication to the craft.
