Today we’d like to introduce you to Trip Ghetaway.
Trip, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Before I start, I may look young, but am almost 40…
I started doing photography back in the 80’s. While most kids wanted to play with toys, I always had a camera in my hand. My parents used to travel a lot, so they would constantly ask me to take photos because they said I was good at it. In 1990 I took actual art classes to learn shading and contrast which I applied to photography as I love contrasty photos. I also took film photography classes. I found the classes moved too slow for me and everything they taught was against my style so to say. Things they said were wrong to do in photography as far as lighting and things I was doing anyway. I found I always liked to do it the way everyone said was the wrong way, the wrong camera settings etc. In the long run it paid off as I’m a published photographer now and put well over 50 plus women in magazines. I do it all for the love of the art form, the creativity… Never cared if someone didn’t like what I did, I would do it anyway. There is no standard for doing photography I realized very young, it’s just all in your vision, creative mind set, and imagination…
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The only struggles I’ve had is people telling me I’m not doing something right because of how they were taught to do it. I learned early on just because someone teaches you how to do something doesn’t mean that’s how it needs to be done. Sometimes you need to add your own twist, or just take photos the way you feel they look good.
Please tell us about Trip Ghetaway.
I’m a photographer/videographer with graphic design experience. I do music too, but that’s another story. Music on iTunes etc… I’m known for my realism. Tattoo artists especially tell me they love my work because of the realism and the fact I don’t over edit my photos. I refuse to make models look like mannequins from the over smoothing and things, to me that just doesn’t look right so I refuse to do it.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Probably sneaking to watch horror movies when my parents weren’t around lol.
