Meet Tristan Ellison of Team Tef Boxing in Frisco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tristan Ellison.

Tristan is a Professional and USA Amateur Boxing instructor with over 20 years of experience. Training with the top amateur and professional boxers in New York state since the age of seven, he honed his expertise under the instruction of the legendary boxing coach Lord Johnson. After being diagnosed with lymphedema, Tristan’s boxing career declined. Although he continued to compete for several years, he found that he had lost his desire to compete, and instead developed a passion for teaching boxing to others. Tristan trains amateur and professional boxers for competition, has a youth boxing program, and also seated boxing program for senior citizens. He truly caters to each demographic covering all ages and prides himself on teaching them all the real fundamentals of boxing.

Tristan stands by boxing as the best pound for pound workout regimen in the world. Not only do students get a great cardiovascular workout and learn the art of self-defense, but they also decrease stress and improve their overall happiness and mental health. Tristan believes that boxing is for everyone, and credits the tools he learned throughout his boxing journey as the key to his success in life. Boxing has taught him that no matter what punches life throws his way, the best option is to get back up and keep on fighting.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would consider it a smooth road because it’s all in God’s plan. This is an ongoing journey of learning to operate a business. I consider myself a real boxing guy who is learning the business side of things. Learning to create a brand that is authentic, professional, and consistent across the board is a learning process. I’ve learned some valuable skills along the way. Things such as negotiating business deals, maximizing time, the importance of diligence, and being patient. You always have to be reading and willing to change and move in the direction the market is taking you. This covid19 pandemic has taught me to be versatile and adapt to any condition as well.

Team Tef Boxing – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My company is Team Tef Boxing. We specialize in teaching the fundamentals of boxing to any age or skill level. We are known for producing quality boxing skills that can be used to become a better boxer or as a foundation of someone’s fitness regimen. We have programs from age 4-100. Youth programs all the way up to senior programs.

I am most proud of honing a national champion from the ground up. I am the trainer to 16-year-old Drew Garrison who is the number 1 165 lb boxer in the nation and represents team USA for his division. As a coach, the ultimate goal is to create champions. There is no doubt in my mind that he would become the Olympic Champion and World Champion in the years to come. God willing of course.

What sets us apart is the fact that we have programs for all ages literally. They all are learning the same fundamentals of boxing. Everyone trains like a real boxer to the best of there ability and fitness level. I can have a four-year-old, 16-year-old, 30-year-old and 80 years old in the same class training together and they all fit in.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Winning 2019 USA boxing national tournament at the Olympic Boxing qualifiers in Lake Charles, Lousiana.
