Ty, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I began my journey into the artistry of hair about 15 years ago. My career started in New York, and the moment I picked up a pair of shears and a pair of clippers I knew what I wanted to do. I studied various techniques and was trained by some of the greatest teachers in the industry. The passion grew and so did my desire to learn new areas of the industry. I had the opportunity to be mentored in London which was an unforgettable experience. Over the course of time, I learned the value in providing the ultimate client experience, what it means to evolve my craft and the importance of integrity. Now that I am planted in the great city of Dallas, Bespoke barbering, along with a premier set of luxury beauty services sets BLADE in a lane of its own. I plan to not only meet the expectation but exceed it!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
That is an awesome question! Life is a journey with ups and downs, highs and lows. I am a firm believer that a struggle is nothing but a setup for something greater and an obstacle is an opportunity with a foundation for a lesson to be learned. Your mind is more powerful than you think. I’ve learned throughout my career that if there is a technique or service that I am specifically interested in that I cannot do, I will not only learn it, but I will have the mindset and drive to master it. We are all our own worst critic. The struggles and the obstacles are what make you who you are today. If you look back over your life and the things that you’ve been through, small or large, personal or professional, and you survived it, that makes you a survivor. If that obstacle or challenge didn’t ‘break’ you, you’re a survivor. Positive energy is essential to one being centered in life. Life has taught me to surround myself with a circle of ionic synergy that is unbreakable, magnetic, and full of light. Every test in life has a testimony, and I strive for mine to be motivational!
Please tell us about BLADE – Private Barber Studio.
I specialize in hair transformation and flawless skin services! Over the course of time, I have been known for both, female and male. My passion for barbering has allowed me to accommodate sports players from the NFL, NBA, and MLB. I’ve had the opportunity of winning six barber competitions, two national competitions, working on the blockbuster movie 007 Spectre in 2015 and the first Avengers movie in 2011. Recently opening BLADE – Private Barber Studio in Oak Lawn has opened up many doors and I am super appreciative of the overwhelming feedback that I’ve received thus far. My business is an upscale private studio with a contemporary feel that provides luxury hair and skin services. I provide multicultural haircuts and styles, eyebrow and face threading, and even a Beluga Caviar facial! What sets me apart from anything else in Dallas is the ability and expertise in working with ALL types and grades of hair, and not being a one-dimensional barber. Having a multicultural clientele is essential and critical for a successful business and it is a personal obligation of mine to be genuinely inclusive to ALL.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory of my childhood is spending quality time with my grandmother before she passed of pancreatic cancer at the age of 51. She was my favorite because she instilled multitudes of wisdom into me at a very young age. I miss her!
