Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler and Lindsey Burns.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Tyler and Lindsey. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Tyler has loved filming since he could hold a camera – literally! As a kid he grew up making short films with the neighborhood kids on his parent’s camera, and I fell in love with photography in high school after an art teacher encouraged me that I had an eye for it! Weddings fell into our laps naturally, and when we met in college, we both were running our own businesses – I was photographing weddings and Tyler filming weddings. Sounds too perfect, right? Yeah, it’s crazy! When we started dating we began shooting together and teaching each other our craft, so when we got married in 2013 we merged our two business to make Tyler + Lindsey. – Lindsey
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the hardest parts of running our own business has been learning to find balance between work and home. When your office is 10 feet from your bedroom, it’s easy to get caught staying late all the time. We honestly love our job and think we have the best clients, but it’s easy to start to feel burnt out when you overwork yourself. We’ve worked really hard to put boundaries in place to help keep that happy balance! I’d also be lying if I didn’t say that working with your spouse obviously comes with some unique challenges, but we’re almost 5 years in now, and we can’t imagine doing it any other way. We see it as a blessing, and I think our marriage is definitely better because of it.
Tyler and Lindsey – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a husband and wife team that specialize in wedding photography and cinematography. We are passionate about weddings, but even more so, we’re passionate about marriage and feel called to love on our couples and encourage them any way we can as they prepare to enter into marriage. We’re very relational in our approach and only take couples that we feel we connect with, because weddings are very personal, and we spend a lot of time with our couples!
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I feel incredibly blessed any time I think about how much the Lord has willed us to do in building our business and being able to support ourselves. We’ve seriously been so blessed to do this and together to boot! I also love any time we get to collaborate with the incredibly talented industry professionals in our market. Recently we collaborated with a regional magazine, Brides of North Texas, for two editorial shoots that got a lot of attention. It’s encouraging to have your industry peers recognize you in such a capacity and alongside such esteemed professionals. To sum it up, we feel blessed to be even be invited any time we collaborate. – Tyler
