Meet Tyler Faison and Jack Cline of The Music Box in Love Field

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Faison and Jack Cline.

Tyler and Jack, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We offer rehearsal space for bands and musicians on a monthly and hourly basis for around-the-clock practice. This in and of itself is not terribly original. Texas in general has long been a hotbed for musical talent and D/FW has no doubt held its own. While legends ranging from Stevie Ray Vaughn and Steve Miller to Leon Bridges and Leann Rimes dominate the charts, there are many, many musicians just as capable of being as “successful” if given the right opportunity and knowledge. We would know, we can hear them practicing as we walk our halls. As musicians ourselves, we found there is a need for a rehearsal facility in Dallas that was made for the professional, or would-be professional musician. We wanted to do more than just offer an empty room to practice in, so we hooked up with other service providers that a band would need in order to be successful – the business side of a gigging band. We’ve made connections with local printers, graphic artists, recording studios and other tangent services to offer exclusive discounts to our members. We also have plans to host seminars and workshops from industry leaders that will help musicians learn, for example, how to align themselves with potentially interested brands or maybe what to expect out of a record label. We’re a very young business; we only opened our doors in Fall of 2016, but we’re already almost completely full. That just shows us that this is something that is a lot of interest in and we are doing our best to provide it.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been relatively smooth actually. This is our first venture like this, so there were so many unknowns going into it. But we laid down a solid plan and have always taken a careful look from all angles to cover any pitfalls that might come up.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Music Box – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
While our primary target is the professional musician, we don’t turn away anyone. There’s no real criteria to speak of, but we do try to recruit a wide variety of musicians. We are of the opinion that a diverse group of musicians can lead to unexpected inspiration. There’s no telling where that can take an artist’s ideas and that’s really exciting. For example, we’re home to a string orchestra that practices in our large common area so imagine a hip-hop artist walking into something like that. Were very proud of our facility. You’ll find a lot of our individual personalities all over. We’re also really proud to be an integral part of the local music-making process. The payoff is hearing a polished performance from one of our bands up on-stage after hearing what was only just an idea.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We hope to add more service providers to our roster in the future, as well as expand our facility to accommodate even more musicians. Now that we have a good idea of what things are most important, we have a good idea of how to implement that in future expansion.
