Meet Vailshali Thakkar of PM Radio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vailshali Thakkar. She and her team share their story with us below:

Vaishali moved to the US from Gujarat, India in 2003 with an accounting degree. Thereafter, she finished her taxation and ongoing studies and completed management courses at the University of Texas, Dallas. Later, she joined her father-in-law, Mr. Mahesh Thakkar, in their tax business. With sheer hard work and a desire to learn and embrace challenges, she successfully led the team and grew in her role to become the CEO of Perfect Tax in 2017.

Funasia is the creative side of the business and what many people do not know about Vaishali is that creativity is just within her. Dance and music have always been her passion. Although Perfect Tax is her forte, she always felt a void in her creativity. Funasia wasn’t a planned baby for Vaishali. She had to take up the responsibility in her husband Sam’s absence. Because he was needed in other businesses, she took up Funasia. Being from an accounting background, she had to learn all the 9 yards of the business. Through interactions with several media people, she grew in her position as CMO of the Media and Entertainment Business and later the CEO of the same.

I’m sure it’s not obstacle-free, but so far, has her journey been a fairly smooth road?
It was not an easy task for her. Fortunately, her family was supportive of her ambitions. However, what became most challenging was keeping the balance between work and home. At work, it is all about ideas, execution, numbers, and turning them into reality. Managing employees and their perspectives is an extraordinary task. While at home, it does make sense for her to carry the burden of work. Particularly when both the spouses are in the same business, there are times when discussions are about work. Vaishali brings this balance, prioritizing her kid’s needs.

As you know, we’re big fans of PM Radio LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar, please share with them about the brand.
Perfect Group of Companies

We’re a business organization that spans over different businesses in tax, radio, entertainment, events, restaurant chain, and real estate development. These businesses give us access throughout the DFW market. Our strength is the South Asian Community and we’re expanding in terms of our reach and demographics.

Although we value our brands equally, Funasia Radio takes home the most popular brand. Likewise, we’re super proud of the institution it is turning out to be. Our motto at Funasia is to bring the community together. Be it through events, shows, concerts we’re always aiming to bring the community together.

Plans for Funasia –

In her opinion, team spirit drives Funasia and Perfect Tax to scale new heights. The team constantly discusses the path they want to be on and help each other get on it and make it successful. Recent events, New Year’s and Garbha Night are notable examples of this team spirit. Despite COVID, there has been a huge turnout and both the events have been equally successfully carried out by the team that worked and works tirelessly to bring the community together. This speaks volumes about Funasia’s future endeavors as a team.

Apart from this, she wants to open a dance school because dancing has been Vaishali’s passion since childhood. She trained in Bharatnatyam under Mrinalini Sarabhai and even gave her arangetram. In fact, her father-in-law once told her, ‘When you dance it feels like you’re meditating. She jokes with Sam to relieve her of the CEO duties so she can open her dance academy.

For those who art just starting out, what is Vaishali’s advice?
While her husband and CEO of Perfect Group of Companies, Sam Thakkar is the visionary behind the ideas, she executes them. She admits that it is not an easy role. It is not easy to formulate processes and procedures and enforce them at every level. A balance is required in understanding the employees and at the same time being professional and putting your foot down when required. The most important quality is empathy, being there for your employees when they need you, and motivating them. She believes that it is a collective effort rather than an individual one. Her team is her biggest strength. One advice she has is that the key to happiness is within you. She came to the US and learnt everything from scratch and that is what made her what she is today. Therefore, nothing is unachievable. People do have low moments, and in such times, they need to seek help and talk about it and that is what makes her happy – being there for people and being with people. Because we are all humans at the end of the day and at the least, we can give to the society is kindness which all of us have in abundance.
