Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Fields, Natasha Wilson.
Vanessa and Natasha, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
A little over two years ago, after dining out at a restaurant we had been referred to by a big food blogger in Austin, we decided that starting our own food blog would be a fun, a new adventure to try! So, start it, we did! We both are big foodies and wanted to share our love and insight to fellow food lovers about the local places we visit while also helping out local entrepreneurs get the word out about their restaurants!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We wouldn’t say it has been the smoothest of roads because a smooth road would take all of the fun out of it! LOL! But in all seriousness, it has definitely been a fun and challenging learning experience for us. There was quite a large learning curve not only with the actual food photography but also with learning the best times to post, how to speak to our audience and how to best engage with them. We know we aren’t perfect, far from it, but it is SO fun and rewarding to look back on how far we have come from where we first started over two years ago. Overall, we have learned to focus on what we are doing, make a goal list/ game plan for the future and try not to compare our successes with anyone else.
Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
We are a social media influencer team comprised of two food-loving friends who met at the University of Texas at San Antonio while working towards our Marketing Degrees. We assist in helping different brands, primarily in the Food and Beverage/ hospitality industries, broaden their exposure through different social media outlets, particularly Instagram. By doing this, we build relationships with those companies through our unbiased reviews and opinions while highlighting what we like most about the product or restaurant. The thing we are most proud of is being the “first port of call” for travelers to seek out where to grab a bite in town! Also, we love being able to help companies successfully market their brands by driving foot traffic to their locations. The thing that sets us apart from most would be having two strong personalities come together to help create one bright, friendly and informative account. As the old saying goes, “two minds are better than one!”.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
We feel that being personable and friendly is the most important element to not only make great connections with fellow bloggers but to also connect and foster relationships with restaurant owners and chefs. We truly love learning what drives them, how their passions began and what keeps them going!
