Meet Dr. Ashley Bellard-Hutchinson of The Vet Girl Mobile Veterinary Services in Southlake

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Ashley Bellard-Hutchinson.

Dr. Bellard grew up in a small farming community in southwest Louisiana. Ashley’s love for animals and their care began on her father’s farm. As a young girl, Ashley dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. In 2007, she fulfilled that dream and graduated from Louisiana State University’s School of Veterinary Medicine. Ashley and her husband Mark moved to Fort Worth following graduation. Ashley practiced and lived in Fort Worth for several years before moving to Southlake. Ashley is a proud mother of Peyton (7 years), Juliana (5 years), Jack (2 years) and has baby number four due March 2018. Ashley started The Vet Girl’s mobile practice in 2017 after being inspired by a few Dragon moms on an elementary field trip. Ashley’s hope is to be an active part of the community where her family resides and children attend school.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Family is a very important part of my life. As a working mom, the work/family struggle is something that always weighs on my mind. My children have taught me so much about life and I think they have not only made me a better person but have also made me a better veterinarian. I love the new face of women in veterinary medicine. I am a part of a group called Moms with a DVM. This group is composed of strong, intelligent women who are business leaders and wonderful mothers. I am proud to be a part of this group. I know what its like to be a busy mom. I am a mom, a strong woman and business owner. With my mobile practice I am able to help other busy moms and save them a trip to the veterinarian’s office.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Vet Girl Mobile Veterinary Services – what should we know?
I am a veterinarian that travels to my client’s home and examines/treats patients. I am able to provide wellness/sick exams, medications, vaccines, blood work/laboratory testing, etc. I offer a more personal service. Pets are not as fearful of me in their home as compared to a trip to the veterinary hospital. Everything is done with the help of the owner; this makes my patients more comfortable. I live and work in Southlake. My children play sports and dance in Southlake. We also attend church here and enjoy being active part of the community. I am most proud of creating something (a mobile practice) that allows me to provide a service and get to know the people of this wonderful city. A city that for me, has a small town feel.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Keeping everything personal. I enjoy interacting with people. I love pets, they’re the reason why I became a veterinarian. However, throughout the years, I have learned that in order to better serve my patients, I have to be able to communicate well with their owners. I listen, I ask questions and I watch my patients in their own home, where they are most comfortable.
