Today we’d like to introduce you to Vianey Rodriguez.
Vianey, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I always love fashion and everything to do with it. Including my hair, I have unruly curly/ wavy hair, and I learn to tame it since I was 14. Always having my hair and makeup done since high school. Some of my high school teachers and some friends would tell me I should do hair.
And my answer was I don’t like doing others hair I only love doing my own. Late my boyfriend now husband saw the same thing in me and encourage me to join cosmetology school. So me not really convinced still joined. I couldn’t have made a better decision in my life.
Now I laugh and tell everyone this story because have of the time I fix everyone’s hair and forget about fixing mine. But the joy of making feel some else beautiful is everything to me now.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Obstacles…. ha! I believe no one ever succeeded in the first try. Well not that this was the most horrible things that could happen. But I had my daughter at a young age when I was 17 years old. So I at a lot of the times I only work to make enough money for us to have what we needed.
But after cosmetology school no one wants to hire you, you always have to have experience and a clientele to be able to work anywhere “nice” so after applying several places and not get hired on. I got a job at Sports Clips doing nothing but men’s haircuts. Which if I do say, so myself made me master the men’s haircuts.
After not being able to grow as a hairstylist after 3 years I decided to look somewhere. My mother recommended to a Well know salon in Las Colinas where I worked there for almost 5 years. Where I learn so much and the perfecting of blonding among other things. I decided it was time for me to go on my own.
Please tell us about VianeyDoesHair.
Now that I am on my own, I love making my own schedule which I work more then I should really. But it is hard for me to say no to my awesome clients. I specialize and Brunette/ Blonde Balayage! But I also love styling and cutting hair. A beautiful color never looks as beautiful without the right cut and style.
I truly proud of my business, but I obtained everything with my hard work and persistence, and even though there’s were times where I thought I couldn’t do it, I did it anyway. That I truly care about every single one of my clients like family. And don’t just see them as a client.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I don’t know if it is my favorite, but like I said earlier my hair is crazy, so I had to learn to control it. My sister and I would use the iron (the one you use for clothes) to iron each other’s hair. Memories that would never go away. Not sure how much we dry our hair out. Lol.
