Meet Vicki Hansen of Vicki’s Making Faces in Pantego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vicki Hansen.

Vicki, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When I first did my permanent make up training, 26 years ago, I was determined to offer my make-up clients a very natural look. I selected colors & styles to enhance their natural beauty and not detract from it. I was trained on both machine techniques & the “eyebrow embroidery” hand method. Naturally, when Microblading/ Microetching was introduced to the US years ago, it was a perfect addition to my permanent cosmetics menu.

I specialize in advanced techniques of medical micropigmention including, scar reduction, skin camouflage, stretch mark reduction, 3D areola’s for Breast cancer survivors and of course, every body’s favorites: eyeliner, lip color & several types of eyebrow techniques.

My training facility is here in Pantego, Texas. Our Areola Artistry classes are gaining national attention because we donate all our areola restoration procedures to breast cancer survivors. (I’m currently licensed & teach in Florida, California, Illinois & Texas)

I am a medical aesthetician, a Master level permanent make-up artist and instructor.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I started there was no social media. No one had heard of permanent make up. I was married to someone who didn’t believe in me or a career that was unknown. I spent lots of time enlightening potential clients to the benefits of permanent make up. Failure was not an option. I HAD to make it work.

Recently, there has been in influx of substandard training. Hopeful students sign up for classes and are placed into large size classes and are not offered color theory, understanding of Fitzpatrick skin types, and how color /techniques heal in the skin. (It takes over 400 hours to do a facial yet these students believe after a day or two, they can cut into people’s faces!)

This has been a catalyst to create my training classes in modules as an ongoing program while mentoring these new artists.

Weekly, I get victims of inexperienced technicians looking for solutions to unfortunate eyebrow design, color and scar tissue.

Vicki’s Making Faces – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Not many people are good artists AND good educators so I feel very flattered when I am told I do both very well. As an artist, I am a perfectionist. I want my work beautiful but more importantly, I want my clients to look in the mirror ad feel fabulous.

As an educator, I teach according to how people learn. People remember successful techniques with rhythm (audio), watching (visual), feeling the skin & vibration (kinesthetic) and repetition.

I think I am most proud of the success I have had on a national level with the Areola Artistry classes & the 3D nipple tattooing I offer.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I think each day is filled with those proud moments. When my clients look in the mirror and love what they see, I feel accomplished.
