Meet Victoria Bell of Vic Honey Bee in DFW

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Bell.

Victoria, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started singing in church at a very early age, singing commercials, theme songs and mimicking some of my favorite artists and down-home singers. One especially being my grandmother. My mom never stopped me; I noticed there was never a time she’d tell me to “quiet down” or “stop.” For that reason, I think I developed the confidence in my gift. I’m a native of waxahachie Texas, where I was recognized for singing but it wasn’t until college where I met some of my very best friends that I really started to come into what I loved. Poetry was home, then came the songs… they flowed and so did The creativity. I did a talent show my freshmen year, got a crazy response & later that night met some people that would change my life. UNT poetic Justice was my artistic outlet… that group of people helped me hone my craft. I continued performing around campus and met my current creative partners the founding members of PKTBK From there we’ve been grooving and I’ve been growing ever since.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road has definitely NOT been smooth. There has been a lot of work on myself, my inner that needed to be done to at least get me where I am now. Pressing my way through undergrad, never really feeling satisfied, accepting life’s dealt hands as well as learning from my mistakes has been an experience I’ll forever grow from. I had to learn if I couldn’t keep it real with myself, nobody else in this world would. I’m continuously on the journey to find my ninch; I’m ever evolving because of my past experiences. I’m grateful for the struggles

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I would call myself a singer/songwriter, vibrations curator, performed & overall a storyteller. I specialize in meeting people where they are and loving them through my art. I feel like I may be known for singing my pain& love but uniquely singing someone else’s at the same time… being transparent through my music.band my peers have told me that’s apart of what they see if special about me. I’m grateful. I’m most proud of the amazing collective I’m blessed to be a part of, we create together and they’ve been apart of some of the most amazing nights on stage and off of my life. I’m also very proud of the connection I get to make with people when I sing, I thank God for it truly because We get to share the healing…we’re connected. I feel like what sets me apart from other artist is that I do nothing in mind to entertain them… only in a way to help heal them through my music. I write my songs based on my life’s experiences but a friend once told me no matter how many times they hear me sing one of my songs “MasterManipulateHER” she always finds herself in the music. I want that feeling to last forever; I want to keep providing it. & I know I will… my nephew once said God told him”your gift is your word if you respect with your gift” so I took that advice & I’ve felt nothing but love from doing so ever since.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Dallas music scene is a big ol pot of Gumbo It has so many historical blessings hidden here that’s what makes the roux so rich then you throw in all the different genres of music and entertainment as well as the people as the ingredients. Giving it that flavor The curators and people that make things move and it’s all good. ALL that to say, yes. Hell yes. Dallas is a great place for my music to grow but I’ll only allow myself to take up so much space in the pot before it’s time to find another place to cook up something. I’ve performed quite a bit here in the city, deep Ellum exclusively, always grateful for the opportunities presented to me there. I would recommend a new artist to go out and explore. Don’t let fear drive but let their ambitions guide them. Sing at some open mics, proclaim yourself as who you want to be, figure out who you want to be but most of all, observe and take notes. There’s so much to learn from your peers, ingest wisdom, sniff out bull shit and grow from it.
