Today we’d like to introduce you to Walter Sullivan, III.
Walter, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As a child, I loved working math problems that were in textbooks. Numbers made sense to me and I enjoyed it. Growing up, I wanted to be a Nuclear Physicist – primarily because it sounded cool coming out of my mouth. However, in high school, I realized this form of science felt like work. However, numbers were still fun! But I also had a passion for business. Before finishing high school, I had a lawn business and general handyman type business and combining business and math would be great. I took one of the aptitude tests offered in HS and one of the career suggestions was Accountant. I later went on to earn my Bachelor and Masters degrees in Insurance/Actuarial Science and Finance, respectively from Morehouse and Clark Atlanta University. During my work career as a Finance Officer/Budget Analyst for major contractors with the Department of Energy, Small Business Specialist with a non-profit development corporation, a Division Head for Business Services with the City of Norfolk, VA’s Recreation Department to Lead Systems Accountant with the Department of the Air Force, I quietly and slowly started building my bookkeeping and tax business. I enjoyed and still enjoy helping people/businesses AND working with numbers.
I retired in July of 2025 and moved to Texas in August 2025 to be closer to the woman that I’ve become engaged to (the wedding is May 24, 2026).
In December 2025, I decided to open my bookkeeping and tax practice in the Far North Dallas area (Plano to be exact). I offer business bookkeeping, business consulting and tax preparation, personal financial coaching and tax preparation, life insurance and annuity services. I’m now living my dream job full-time of helping people and incorporating numbers. I love it!!
My business name is Bookkeeping & Tax Fleaux, LLC. My website is www.bookkeepingtaxfleauxllc.com. Email is [email protected]. Phone number is 214-720-7228. Check out my FB page and Google Business Profile.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely the most significant struggle has been attracting clients. It’s challenging moving to an area of the US and you only know 3 or 4 people AND launch a business. It’s challenging but not impossible! My reputation as financial services practice is rooted in (1) wanting to help individuals/businesses achieve their goals and (2) loving what I do so much that it is fun and not a job. Those will be the reasons why I will succeed and overcome this struggle. I currently have some time now so I can hone my services so that when more clients are ready to use me, I have excellent services to offer that will aid in their overall financial well-being (whether personal and/or business). AND, I’ll be able to do so either in personal or virtually.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
To know more about my work, you have to understand what makes me “tick” internally.
As a child, I watched my parents work hard in their jobs, achieve and grow in their professions and, more importantly, saw they did so with an attitude of service. Now, don’t get it twisted. These two had high demanding and paying jobs! But, as they accomplished their work, they did so as Servant Leaders meaning they wanted others (whether at work, at church or at home) to succeed in their endeavors. This rubbed off on me and why I approach my “work” the way I do. You see, this isn’t work for me …. This is fun!! I get to work with people, helping them achieve their business/personal financial goals AND get paid doing so?? F U N !!!
Here’s what I specialize in (my priority order):
(1) Actively Listening – I intently listen to what my clients/friends tell me what they want to achieve. I don’t tell them what they need to achieve. Whatever my clients’ goals are, we set and explore ways of achieving the goals.
(2) Give honest feedback – The feedback I give is not mean to “brow beat” people into submission but is said so that they have the pros and cons on how they want to achieve their goals and how to measure the results as they attain their goals.
(3) Show the numbers – Whether it’s a spending plan, financial statement reviews, loan package preparation, etc., I spend time helping my clients (a) understand their financial information, (b) interpret this information in their own words so they are more comfortable with it and (c) develop contingency plans if the original plan doesn’t work. We pivot when our plans don’t work. But we don’t stop and just give up!
So, I specialize in helping people achieve their business and personal financial endeavors by listening, providing feedback with the pros and cons on how to accomplish their goals and present numbers that help track and report those numbers in a clear manner that they understand and can use.
I have the best job EVER!!
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
If you’re looking for a trusted financial advisor, who will (1) listen you, (2) work with you to achieve your goals with constructive feedback, and (3) help you develop ways to measure your outcomes, I’m your person!
If I’m not the person you choose to help you, I’m ok with that. As long as you understand that we all need a little (or a lot) of help with our financial well-being. So, choose someone that will be dedicated to helping you achieve your business or personal financial goals. Hopefully, you’ll give Bookkeeping & Tax Fleaux, LLC, the opportunity to help you in your journey.
