Meet Wenter Givens of Just Cake’n

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wenter Givens.

Hi Wenter, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m originally from Los Angeles, California. I relocated to the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas in 2010 with my 2 young daughters in tow, looking for a better life.   I decided to start Just Cake’n when the Covid pandemic started at the end of 2019. Making cakes just came naturally to me, what is so amazing is it just came of nowhere. I realized that God had blessed me with this unique talent, so I put it to use. I quit my job and stepped out in faith. Now, here I am as the owner of Just Cake’n.”

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing is ever smooth I guess you can say. I struggled with the fear of failure, financial limitations, and being inexperienced are a couple. I taught myself everything I know. I questioned  and or second guessed myself a lot in the beginning like am I good enough to be a household name?   I am always one to fear the worst, but I always expect the best. I just put my best foot forward ask the lord to guide my hands..  I have come to appreciate the saying, “To whom much is given, much is required.”

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Just Cake’n?
We specialize in custom cakes, wedding cakes, cupcakes, cheesecakes, and all of your favorite bakery classics.

A couple of things that set me apart from other bakeries is ability my make a custom cake with no schooling or training.

It comes naturally to me. I make everything from scratch using family recipes. I also have a background in customer service.  On my previous jobs, I was able to learn a set of skills that I was able to bring with me when I started my own business. I’ve found that the typical person in this role or function doesn’t have much customer service background, since it’s mostly a cake decorator-focused role. I can come in and share that customer-facing experience, which I think can help the team perform better and save time.”

I am most proud of my accomplishments. Being blessed at what I do, i was able to teach myself everything I know. It’s like a God-given talent that you never knew you had but there it is and your sooooo darn good at it.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I saw my daughter Adrianna start her business Events by Adrianna from scratch and it gave me the inspiration to try.

My daughter Tatianna went to school for culinary so I think that was my cue knowing one day I would manage her business.

Shout out to my mentor,  biggest cheerleader Micheal.
He always told me I was the don’t give up. I have something keep working. He saw my vision when no one else did. When they laughed and told me I would make it, he told me keep pushing. He was my confidence when I didn’t have any. I honestly don’t know how I would have did it without him.
