Today we’d like to introduce you to Wes Linsley.
Wes, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born here in Dallas, Texas. I played several sports from the time I was five years old all the way through high school. When I turned 17 years old I got into boxing, training all over the metroplex. I was a Dallas Golden Gloves Champion twice, had earned myself an undefeated Amateur MMA Career and fought professionally for three years. During this time in my life, I was introduced to mixed martial arts. With several years of training in Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and Muay Thai, I have picked up several training methods that I still use today. I have learned and experienced the process of losing weight, building muscle and getting into great shape with developing mental strength and confidence. I transitioned into becoming a personal trainer and USA Boxing coach with the desire to help others learn and develop the same. For the past 10 years, I have been a personal trainer, strength coach and boxing coach and obtained my CrossFit Level One certificate. Training others is my passion! My goal is to help each and every one who walks through the doors of Alpha Family Fitness become the best version of themselves!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Ha!! That’s a great question. As I am going in to June, I’ll be celebrating my 10-year anniversary. I have reflected a lot on my road to where I am today. I started my business with basically nothing. I took a chance, emptied my bank account and never looked back. It’s been a roller coaster ride needless to say. My first five years were tough. It was a month to month gig. As time went on, I learned a lot of what not to do. At that point, I had to make a decision. Close up or put everything I had into the business, Well, I’m still here, so I guess you know what path I chose. The one thing that I can say that has always been my strong point and I believe has been a major factor in my success is creating personal relationships past business. My gym is a community, a family. Without that connection with individuals as they walk through my doors, I would have to close and shut down.
Alpha Family Fitness – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Alpha Family Fitness is a place that makes fitness fun and challenging, something that you can share with friends and family! That is what we are known for, it’s a community designed for everybody. We have two different programs, our Alpha Strength and Conditioning class and our Boxing class, which is the home of the original Wylie Boxing Club, established in 2007. Both programs have adult and kid’s classes available.
Our Alpha Strength and Conditioning program is group classes with a variety of strength and conditioning workouts, scalable for any level athlete. These classes consist of high intensity workouts and weightlifting. Focus points include functional fitness, Olympic lifting, gymnastics and mobility.
Our boxing program is the top boxing gym in the area and is mainly known as Wylie Boxing Club. This program has produced over 20 Golden Glove Champions, two World Champions, and several other tournament champions in the amateur circuit. Focus points include focus mitts, heavy bag drills, foot work and core conditioning. It is fit for anyone that has aspirations of competing or just want to get in shape.
As a company, we are the proudest of our athletes that come in every week to work out and support others. They are truly what makes this place such a great community and a place to grind. We are a family and our family is filled with people of great character and big hearts. We traditionally do a fundraiser every year for Wylie High School’s Friends of Rachel Program and often do for other citizens in need. During these events our members are always engaged and show full support, putting aside time away from their own lives to be a part of something that will help make a positive influence in the lives of others. They are some of the best people we know.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Ultimately success for me is a feeling manifested by a few different things. It is the reward of having these things balanced in my life.
– Fatherhood
– Being a good husband
– Health
– Career
– Friendships
My personal success revolves around my family and friends. My family comes first, being able to spend quality time with my wife and son is what keeps me grounded. Being the father to my son that I never had is the most meaningful thing that I will do in my lifetime. I am only one year in, and I have never felt more love before. I also have a great circle of friends that have without a doubt been a remarkable influence in my life. Honest friendships are really hard to come across these days, and I am certainly grateful for mine. It’s the people you keep close to you that help create the experience of life, and my life is pretty good!!
Unlike some, my business success revolves around the athletes that come in every week to grind. It’s not about money or having the flashiest gym on the block. It’s about helping them reach their own personal and individual goals. Their outcomes fulfill my purpose in opening my gym doors every day.
