Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Alley Clark.
Whitney, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I attended SMU’s art program on an art scholarship, with a major in Art History and a minor in Art Studio. With a focus in drawing and printmaking, these foundational principles have helped to propel my painting portfolio.
Private commissions helped jump start my art career when I was 19 years old. I have worked on location in Seaside, FL for a 13 piece project, collaborated with decorators, and helped individuals to meet all of their needs to bring a fun and beautiful painting to their desired space.
My artwork has found its home across the state of Texas, in multiple states across the U.S., as well as in Europe. Currently, my artwork is available at Bee Street Studio, a gallery located in Dallas, as well as The Collective, a home decor shop in Dallas. I also have original artwork and prints available for purchase on my website (www.whitneyalley.com) and please feel free to contact me directly for a private commission, specific for your needs!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey pursuing art has been a very slow and steady climb. Sometimes artists pursue the marketing angle of the business where there is a lot of output of inventory and it’s a mad dash to make a sale. I have tried to hold true to the idea that I want there to be a sincerity and an earnestness in my work, even if that means I work more slowly on paintings with a smaller portfolio but a higher quality collection of pieces.
It’s easy to play the comparison game but at the end of the day, I want quality over quantity, and to be proud of the portfolio I have created.
Please tell us about Whitney Alley Fine Art.
I paint paintings that can be purchased through my website (www.whitneyalley.com), I have inventory in two local Dallas galleries (BeeStreetStudio.Com) & (TheCollective.com), and I do private commissions for clients.
I have been working in this capacity for the past 13 years and have loved every minute of it. I was working part time in college as well as 6 years after college, on top of my “day job.” I was finally able to move to full time work for two years and this made a huge difference in my business and my portfolio. And finally, I have a 2 year old son and 1 more on the way end of September, so I will be working part time again, as I’m taking care of them!
I specialize in colorful, impressionistic abstracts, as well as abstract landscapes. In a world full of digital art, I stick with the beautiful simplicity of brushes and paint. I gain inspiration from the work of the impressionists and love the feeling you get when you see their brush strokes in their paintings, it’s as if you can envisions yourself there with them as they paint the piece.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memories from childhood are playing outside with my family, friends, cousins and neighbors. I am from a family of 5, with three brothers and 1 sister, so there was never a dull moment.
I also loved sports as a kid and played soccer and tennis.
Art class was always my favorite class in school since about the 5th grade.
