Today we’d like to introduce you to Willow Harville.
Willow, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I originally started because I bought myself a mirrorless Nikon to start a DIY blog, a friend of mine asked me the morning of her wedding if I could bring my camera and take some photos, as her photographer had an emergency. I panicked and jumped in! I was so in over my head but I faked my way through it so she wouldn’t get nervous and I sent her her photos after spending hours learning about presets and Lightroom. She loved them and she still refers me out to people constantly. After that, I started getting clients coming to me to shoot their weddings and photo sessions and births. I figured out most things as I went, as most do in today’s independent artist world, and I have been doing photography ever since. I studied some film and digital photography classes, invested in high-quality gear and quit my day job to do something I’m in love with everyday.
Has it been a smooth road?
The hardest thing when I started my business was trying to balance it all, a 9-5 office job, going back to school, raising children, being a wife, running my own business. Luckily I quit my office job, got a stay at home marketing position working for Kyte BABY, a local baby brand, traded my classes in for online courses, and carved out time in my busy schedule for family time and my business. I am an extremely dedicated people person, so I put 110% into every single client and session I deliver to make sure everyone is over the moon about their photos. I’ll always be hustling but I understand my limits a little more now.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My favorite part of my business is the reaction on a client’s face when they see the back of my camera or the messages I get while they’re looking at their sneak peeks.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Dallas is filled with mothers and engaged couples who just want to spend more time creating lasting memories. I think something like their most precious moments and times in their lives preserved and documented in a way that feels true to them, in our area, is valued a little higher and cherished more.
