Today we’d like to introduce you to Xavier Nixon.
Xavier, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Man, I started back in 2015 after promoting parties for HTS which was owned by Romeo Gabbana and throwing kickbacks with my TeamGutz bros. I found my self trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life what was next truth be told I had no idea what I wanted to do I just knew I wanted to get money and be secure in life. One day I was having a normal life conversation with my brother SirJoe he shoots videos and is apart of the BlackMRKTMovement now, he asked me what I wanted to do. I told him I didn’t know, he said you like music don’t you and I was like yea I do but I’m not a rapper then I told him me and my two homegirls were talking about starting a label he told me to go for it. I was like bet might as well because something that’s always stuck with me when it came to making the decision of which route to take in life was my mama telling me that whatever I choose to do in life make sure it’s my passion so I can wake up loving what I do. Man that shit was hard because in all honesty man I’ve never had a passion for anything, I call myself trying different things growing up but nothing ever stuck. I played football quit that shit after 10th or 11th grade I never understood how niggas was so hyped behind that shit lol, don’t get me wrong I love football sports in general, I even attempted to make beats in high school never knew why that didn’t stick.
I use to sit on the computer just playing around I want to say I used FL Studio fruity loops whatever it’s called lol, man. I even auditioned for Disney channel in high school not many people know that I remember after the interview I made it to the part where’s they start asking for money completely killed my hope and dreams lol. I was like damn y’all couldn’t let me know it was gone cost to get through before I spent a week practicing in the mirror like an ass lol, but man yea back to the story so then I went back and chopped it up with my homegirls we were music junkies and each had a passion but didn’t know how to get where we wanted, so boom I started doing my research then just started free styling and got in the field. I feel like the best way to start doing what you want do in life is to just start doing it, if that makes sense man I totally emerged myself in everything music business from books to YouTube videos really trying to gain the knowledge. I’ve worked with several artist along the way they all taught me valuable lessons that are relevant till this day then I started networking and going to open mics and shows, that’s when I really started to learn the game.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not at all man with anything you do there will be obstacles the objective is to overcome them, more importantly how you overcome them, what do you do when faced with adversity. I’ve never been a quitter when I really really really want something I do everything in my power to accomplish set goal or die trying haha. Life itself will test you it’s been a journey trying to be consistent and make it in the music industry. I was homeless a couple of times that definitely slowed down progression, you can’t run a business with no funds I learned haha. But losing friends you do business with is probably the hardest, the people I started this whole thing with aren’t here anymore doing this by myself has been a struggle but the reward is worth it in the end.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My company is technically called Unorthodox Records, we specialize in empowering the artist we want to be a direct bridge from artist to mainstream success. I’m probably known for working with artist like Lonersclub and Brionne. I’m not sure how aware people are of me yet lol I try to move silent & strategic, man the thing I’m most proud of is the unveiling of my company by the time this interview is published we should be rolling out the business with our first show. What sets me apart, hmm good question I think what sets me apart is I try to let the work speak before you even see me I don’t feel the need to be in the camera or center of attention my business should have your attention not me.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I had many personalities for the most part people knew me for being goofy and I guess funny I was always told I was funny and had the best music selection everybody wanted my iPod in middle school lol. I played sports, football from elementary to highschool track in middle school. I’ve never been good at basketball, I was also bad in school and always had a problem with authority that’s how I know I’m a boss haha I don’t like to be told what to do. I got referrals every week and spent a lot of time in ISS because of my mouth I use to get whoopings like Creasy because I acted out in class or said something smart to the teacher, oh well haha.
