Today we’d like to introduce you to Yasar Awan.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Yasar. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started as a hobbyist, mainly capturing landscapes and nature. When my wife started her makeup artistry business (Awan That Makeup), I was tasked with helping her take photos for her portfolio. This is what initially got me interested in photographing people and it also inspired me to start my own business. My wife and I decided it would be a good idea to start photographing professionally and as a husband and wife duo we eventually started Once Awan A Time Photography. Through hard work and dedication, and spending a lot of time photographing and editing our photos as a team, we are where we are today.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Getting in to the photography industry is no easy feat, and definitely not a smooth road. Being in a large metroplex like Dallas, there is a lot of competition and a lot of very good photographers. The most challenging part is standing out from your competition. As a husband and wife team we do everything in-house and we try to be as communicative as possible with our clients. We work together to pose clients for portrait sessions, work efficiently to capture different parts of the weddings we photograph, and even do all of the editing together. This leads to consistent results and leaves us and our clients satisfied.

We provide photography services specializing in weddings and portraits. We’ve grown the business from scratch and we are proud to be self-taught photographers. We really enjoy what we do and it makes it even more fun for us to be a husband-wife-duo and that’s what sets us apart. We don’t outsource our work – from shoot to edit we work together and have an impeccable on-time delivery record!
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I define success as being happy with what you do and putting your best effort in everything you do. You can’t always please everyone, but when you know you put your best foot forward and honestly tried hard, it’s what makes any job satisfying. I believe that Honesty and Integrity are two of the most important characteristics that make a person successful.
