Today we’d like to introduce you to Yasha.
Hi Yasha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
As a young kid, music and art has always been a big part of my life. My parents would always have Maxwell, Isley Brothers, or Luther Vandross playing around the house. Even being in the car with my older sister and she’d have Kanye’s “Graduation” CD or “Tha Carter 3”. That led me to discover a lot of other R&B and Rap artist like Biggie, Outkast, Wu-Tang the list goes on . Hearing how creative these artists were, it gave me a creative drive to start making music myself. Even though I was young, I didn’t have access to a studio. I would record voice memos off my iPod nano, with a Lil Wayne instrumental playing in the background rapping my lyrics that I wrote down off a notebook. Just that alone, gave me the thrill and motivation to pursue music.
As I got older, I met some friends after high school, with the same love for music as I did. With the access that we had to record, my best friend and producer Monte was able to make beats and mix/engineer my music. In the beginning, looking back it was definitely trial and error but it was and still a lot of fun being able to actually record and release music on streaming services. As time went on, I was able to make a name for myself. Releasing projects, music videos, vlogs on YouTube to show our daily life and show the process it takes to produce and make music from just thought in my head, to a whole song.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being a music artist and trying to make a name yourself is definitely not the easiest come up, but its beauty in it for sure. Some days you want to give up, but being able to get in the studio and get a real thrill from the creativity you put out, it’ll pull you back in. It’ll let you know every time, that your built for it. Sometimes you’ll second guess yourself and think “oh I guess my music isn’t good enough…” or you feel like you’re not getting anywhere, but that’ll get you nowhere. Once you become confident in what you do, nobody or anything can put you down. I’d rather have the rough road, and to be able to look back and see all the hard work you put in, in the end it will be much more of a blessing and an accomplishment.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
What sets me apart from others, would probably be the creativity that goes into creating my music. Me and my brother Monte, will sit in the studio for hours, breaking down a sample and twisting it into our own sound. Building the verse, the chorus, the bridge, and creating something we haven’t heard from ourselves yet and repeat. You can hear my music and can tell the effort is all there. I can confidently say, our sound is something you haven’t heard before. After each drop, we try to top it and release something even better than the last.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I believe music is timeless, doesn’t matter what genre you’re in or listen to. I know A.I. is becoming a big deal in the music industry but I can’t see any one being an actual fan of it. Theres no soul in it, when you love music as much as I do, you’d want to hear and feel the passion behind it.
