Today we’d like to introduce you to Yenni Haryanti.
Hi Yenni, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up in Indonesia, I always loved cooking and shopping at traditional markets. Food has always been deeply connected to my culture and identity. In 1995, I moved to the U.S. as an international student and studied Travel Industry Management in Honolulu. Whenever I missed home, I cooked Indonesian dishes, learning recipes from friends’ parents from different regions of Indonesia who generously shared traditional recipes, tips, and techniques passed down through generations.
Throughout my career in hospitality — working in hotels, airlines, tour & travel agencies, and restaurants — I always found myself back in the kitchen. Serving others through food became a family passion. My husband, who worked in Japanese restaurants, later opened one of the first sushi food trucks in the Bay Area in 2011. After moving to Plano, Texas in 2013, we continued sharing our food with friends, and eventually, through word of mouth, our customer base grew.
There were seasons when I had to step back to focus on raising our three children, but our community never left us. I’m deeply grateful to everyone who has supported us from the very beginning.
In 2021, seeking more flexibility for my family, we opened Angel Touch Kitchen in a Carrollton food court. After years without an Indonesian restaurant in DFW, the response was overwhelming. We sold out within hours, and customers traveled long distances for our food, especially our Beef Rendang, a dish once named the world’s most delicious food by one of travel channel in the U.S.
Unfortunately, our journey wasn’t without challenges. The grocery store housing our food court closed just months later, and despite signing a new lease, the building was suddenly locked in August 2022 due to bankruptcy. We lost our storefront overnight, with no clear answers. During that difficult time, the support from Asian Grubbers, Dallas Asian Pop-Up Vendors, the DFW Indonesian community, and the halal community carried us forward.
Rather than giving up, we transitioned into pop-ups across the DFW area. After much prayer and discussion, our family decided to invest in a food trailer instead of signing another risky lease. In March 2023, Angel Touch Kitchen officially reopened as a seasonal mobile kitchen.
Today, we continue serving authentic Indonesian halal cuisine through pop-ups, catering, and our food trailer. We are deeply committed to making everything from scratch using traditional ingredients, even though it means lower profit margins. We will continue searching for a reasonable new permanent home where we can continue serving our community without compromising the authenticity of our food.
This journey has been filled with faith, resilience, and love. We are excited for what’s ahead and we are believing the best is yet to come for Angel Touch Kitchen.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, but we’re thankful for every step of the journey. We faced challenges such as losing our storefront due to building closures, unexpected shutdowns, and navigating the uncertainty of running a small business during and after COVID. Our commitment to using authentic, from-scratch ingredients also means lower profit margins, which can make things more challenging.
Despite everything, the support from our community has been incredible. Each challenge strengthened our resilience and reminded us why we do what we do — to share authentic Indonesian cuisine and culture. The obstacles have only made us more grateful, more focused, and more hopeful about the future.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Angel Touch Kitchen?

What sets us apart is our commitment to preparing everything from scratch using traditional recipes and ingredients, staying true to the flavors we grew up with. For many of our customers, this is their first introduction to Indonesian food, and we’re honored to share our culture through every dish.
We are best known for our Beef Rendang, Sate Ayam, Mie Ayam, Ayam Geprek and Nasi Goreng, We love bringing these dishes directly to people through lunch pop-ups, private events, and catering.
