Today we’d like to introduce you to Yoahana Lagunas
Hi Yoahana, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have loved to bake since I was a kid, and having an art background, making things I ate pretty and interesting was always important. I am a jewelry designer by day and a baker at night. My husband, Victor, and I started our business during Covid as a means to make extra money for our fertility treatments. We had just gotten married and found out we had to do IVF. It started as a treat/cake business. The market got very saturated during that time so we put it on hold for a little bit. In October of 2023, we decided to give it another try with just our treats. I noticed that cookies were popular, so I decided to add some in. Even though I had never baked a cookie in my life, it turned out well. At our first few markets, our cookies stole the show every time, and we scrapped treats altogether, and The Cookie Factory was born! So far, we have grown so much that we have had to buy industrial equipment, and our goal is to move into our food trailer next year.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road working on our business. We have had to overcome moments of doubt, navigating a competitive market, overcoming technical hurdles, managing finances, and adapting to changing market conditions.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What sets us apart from other cookie business around now is that not only the taste and using quality ingredients is important but also for each cookie to be visually pleasing. We do eat with our eyes first after all! Starting this business with my husband has not come with challenges and failures along the way, but having our families support has helped us get here and of course God’s guidance and always trying to put God first in our lives and in our business is a must for success! Along the way what we have learned is that things can always change, trends change and we just have to keep up and be ready for it.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was a curious and imaginative child with a strong love for learning new things. I was very shy around new people but had a close group of friends with whom I was very outgoing and playful. My interests leaned towards the creative side, including drawing, crafting, sewing and of course baking.
