Meet Yonnas Kassa of King Yonnaz in Addison

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yonnas Kassa.

Yonnas, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was always bullied in elementary school leading up to high school. People always made fun of me, because I was a guy comfortable with his feminine/masculine side.

I first started my journey into the beauty industry sophomore year in high school.

Watching youtube videos day today inspired me to create because I was always fantasied by how much you could do with makeup.

I started buying my own products, hiding them in my backpack, going to school enhancing my face. The only people that would know I wear makeup were my classmates, but I gained enough confidence to not stress over what people thought of me.

As of today, I’m on global beauty brands PR lists, throughout the years, I found out that this was a passion of mine, and I wanted to pursue as much of it as I can.

Has it been a smooth road?
There were days where I felt like I was doing something wrong. Constantly hiding what I love to do, that could potentially help other people. I grew up in an Ethiopian household where my parents didn’t understand society. They’re foreign and very religious.

It took a few years for them to adjust and understand I do everything with love. I’ve always had thick skin going into my career because I’ve been bullied for so long. I can withstand so much, but I’m human at the end of the day.

Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I use to freelance with makeup, helping other people be confident. All from Prom, Homecoming & Bridal look. I made a living off that for years, especially after high school.

Never was the person to limit myself, so that’s when I realized I was an enthusiast. Creating out of the box looks, sometimes couldn’t believe I did. Doing Youtube, filming, editing becoming a content creator.

I’m most proud of making a name for myself to the point where people know its business & never the less. I’ve constantly got personal messages on social media saying that I helped them come out. Thanking me for being me. I have a genuine connection with my supporters. I thank my supporters for allowing them to accept me. Makeup is a form of expression, so is fashion. I’m all about being your authentic self.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and the least?
I love Dallas because of its diversity in the community. I was born & raised here so I know a lot about the city.
I can’t imagine my life without Dallas honestly. This city has taught me so much from work ethic to what not to support.

The least thing I’m not too fond of Dallas is the bigotry stigma around certain areas. I wish people just knew how to love, it’s not hard. Pride is growing in the Dallas area every year, and it’s nothing but love on my end!
