Today we’d like to introduce you to Z Nombrana.
Z, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Prior to hair, I was part of corporate America. I was successful and it was something that I thought I was happy doing until I had a major life event that made me think long and hard about what I wanted for my future. After some thought, and some realization, I chose to pursue a Barber License and attend Barber College.
One day, while I was sitting in class, I had some free time and a mannequin head with a full head of hair. I decided to try and attempt a braid. I had never braided hair in my life, but to my surprise, I was able to do a full dutch braid all the way down the head! This was my first time and I didn’t think much of it to be honest, not until the next day at least. While at school we had someone walk in and asked if anyone knew how to braid and one of my classmates called me to the front. Being put on the spot I tried again, this time a ManBun with two dutch braids. Again, to my surprise and this being only my second time, I was able to complete the braid.
At that point, I began to realize the liking I had gained towards braiding! I continued to practice more and more, and once I completed college I set my eyes on a goal.
All of which got me to where I am at today. I graduated from school in March of 2019, and since then, have been able to grow my braiding business and my brand. I recently had the pleasure to be the FIRST MALE BRAIDER apart of the StyleFactor Edge Control Traveling Braiding Team, have been able to expand my clientele to other states, and have never been happier in my work!
Has it been a smooth road?
There was definitely some hurdles/struggles along the way. One of the biggest struggles/hurdles I had to overcome was putting myself into a brand new industry that I had never set foot in. I knew nothing about hair but was ready to learn everything.
Another struggle I have come across, more recently, is being a Male Braider. It was not something I expected to struggle with, but with braiding being predominantly female based I have definitely had to show that I am able to keep up with the females in the game!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Braidz by Z – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a Male Braider/Barber! I specialize in all braids for all hair types/textures! I am known for doing Festival Braids and for being a Male Braider in the industry!
I would say one of the things I am most proud of is the accomplishments thus far in the industry. I have been able to be the First Male Braider and a Braid Educator for Style Factor Edge Control! I have recently been able to see my work in different music videos for big-name artists as well!
What sets me apart from others is the fact that I am a Male Braider, my clean/detailed line work, and that I am able to add-in hair/extensions!
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the opportunity that’s out there! I’ve been able to network with some great people!
