Today we’d like to introduce you to Zach Mathews.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I began tattooing in Waxahachie in early 2013. After a little over a year, I made the move to Dallas to help further my career. Char and Emily McGaughy hired me on at Gold Dust Tattoos in October of 2014. After about a year I was made manager of the shop. Gold Dust has continued to grow and expand at an impressive rate since the doors first opened. We have a great group of artists and an amazing clientele that has continued to support us through the beginning years of the shop as well as through the rough times of construction on Greenville Ave.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We have had our struggles in the past. Road construction in front of our shop left our shop looking closed. With businesses turning over at rapid rates in our area, Gold Dust has been able to remain a constant.
Please tell us about Gold Dust Tattoos & Fine Art.
Gold Dust is a shop that specializes in custom tattoos, you will not find any flash on our walls. We take pride in our versatility and knowledge among artist. We do everything in our power to make all clients feel at ease rather they are coming in for their 1st or 100th tattoo. People can feel intimidated coming in to tattoo shops, and we are looking to be a place to change that within the industry.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory is from when I was working at a summer camp when I was in the Boy Scouts. It is hard to pinpoint a specific moment, but living in a tent by a lake was extremely satisfying. I really enjoy the outdoors and all of the friends I made in my time there.
Pricing:
- Tattoos start at $80 and go up depending on size, placement and detail.
- Our artists range from $100-$150 an hour.
- We run specials on basic piercings every Monday that include several $25 piercings.
