Meet Zack Milton of THE NOT SO AVERAGE

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zack Milton.

Zack, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Although I have accomplished many of my goals, I feel as though I am reaching the end of the beginning. In the beginning, I found myself skating hard, hell-bent on going pro like so many I looked up to such as Koston, Ishod, and Na-Kel. It wasn’t till I finished High School that I would realize physically I couldn’t continue towards that dream, unfortunately.

Lost and confused on what I wanted to do I slowly began to devote more time, money, and energy into my wardrobe seeing as I wasn’t spending all my money on new decks, wheels, etc. This in time led to me falling in love with streetwear and the culture that stands today. I began designing clothes and sewing garments early into my freshman year of college hoping to hone my skills and establish a solid set of skills needed to run a successful brand. Now, four yrs later I have re-vamped my personal brand and began operating under the title “THE NOT SO AVERAGE” with a newfound passion and drive to be different and set myself apart from what I see today.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My main struggle would be building awareness and staying consistent. I have always found it exciting to create good products and/or content, yet I struggle with keeping up with the pace of the culture. I am no fan to the traditional approach to fashion where you have things drop like clockwork. I have always been mesmerized by the mystery of groups like daft punk, J.Cole, and even T.D.E seeing as some members fade in and out of the spotlight as they please while still having the ability to put food on the table comfortably. Moving forward I have made it my #1 priority to keep my foot on the industry’s neck and prove who is best in the south when it comes to creative directing and designing!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
THE NOT SO AVERAGE is dedicated to just that. Being different and unique in whatever my “paintbrush” touches. I have constructed my brand in a way in which I can fill many different pockets from clothing to pop-up exhibits to short films displaying all of the above plus more. I see an emptiness in Dallas currently where there is no, to my knowledge, dominant streetwear brand running the game in the ways in which NYC brands and LA brands do.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I recently found myself in a hole so to speak following a pop-up shop I held at The University of North Texas. I was stuck and couldn’t decide what lane I wanted to put the majority of my energy into. Luckily I was scrolling through IG one morning when I noticed a few pages in the explore section that inspired me to re-vamp my page and release structure. Moving forward I will be setting myself up for a major release once a month with hopes each release is bigger than the last! I have high expectations for the release I plan on doing late November 2019. Stay tuned by following @tnsa_creative on IG.
