Hi Zeke, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey into sleep consulting began with a lifelong curiosity sparked by personal and familial sleep challenges. As a child, I witnessed my father struggle with sleep issues and various medications. My own sleep habits were unchecked and erratic, which led to significant problems, especially during my teenage years. These challenges followed me into adulthood, culminating during my time in the Army, where I opted to work night shifts as a strategy to manage my irregular sleep patterns.

After my military service, I underwent a sleep study prompted by my wife’s concerns about my snoring, which revealed a moderate case of insomnia. This led to several years on Ambien, which, while initially effective, resulted in sleepwalking and other disruptive behaviors. My health complexities grew during pharmacy school, where I faced new challenges with adult-onset ADHD and prehypertension, leading to a cocktail of medications that left me feeling worse, not better.

A pivotal moment came with the birth of my daughter, who, like me, had significant sleep issues. This period was a turning point. My wife and I were desperate for solutions, which led us to a baby sleep course. Skeptical at first, I was astonished by the improvement in my daughter’s sleep, which transformed our lives and inspired my wife to start our business, Live Love Sleep, in 2016.

This experience opened my eyes to the critical importance of sleep. I devoured books, research papers, and guidelines on sleep, which eventually led me to become a certified sleep consultant. Combining my pharmacy background with my new expertise, I developed a holistic approach to sleep that addresses four key pillars: optimizing sleep pressure, aligning circadian rhythms, fostering an insomnia-resistant mindset, and reducing physical stressors.

I began sharing this knowledge freely in my pharmacy practice and through public talks. Demand grew for one-on-one coaching, and companies began to seek my guidance for their employees. Recently, I’ve expanded my reach by launching a comprehensive sleep course with TheraOptimal Health.

Having overcome my own sleep challenges and now thriving without medication for over six years, I am more passionate than ever about helping others discover the transformative power of proper sleep. This journey has not only been about improving my own life but also about empowering others to realize that good sleep is foundational to good health.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Certainly, the road has not been smooth, but each challenge has been a stepping stone toward greater success and understanding in our business. Initially, my wife and I faced the steep learning curve of digital business ownership. Despite investing in our website, logo, and other startup essentials, we encountered three months of silence—no clients, which was disheartening. Our friends and family supported us emotionally but were hesitant to become clients themselves. It felt like we might have made a huge mistake. However, persistence paid off, and our first client call on January 3rd marked the beginning of a turning point, gradually filling our schedule.

The adult segment of Live Love Sleep unfolded more gradually. Recognizing that many of my pharmacy patients on sleep medications also had conditions like diabetes and hypertension, I began offering group classes. These classes quickly grew beyond what I could manage without sacrificing family time, prompting me to streamline my approach through a certification that specialized in one-on-one sleep coaching. This transition mirrored the early days of our baby sleep coaching—initially slow but eventually gaining traction through our website.

Just as we were setting ambitious expansion goals in 2020, the pandemic hit, halting our face-to-face interactions which were a significant part of our service. The initial months of the shutdown were terrifying; we experienced a complete drop in calls. However, the shift towards virtual services in late July not only revived our business but expanded it, necessitating additional help at home for our children during their summer break.

The growth and adaptation to virtual consultations have not only sustained our business but also enriched it. We’ve been incredibly grateful for the trust our clients place in us, especially those who, after seeing the benefits for their children, decided to engage with our adult sleep coaching services. Their success and word-of-mouth referrals have been instrumental in spreading the importance of quality sleep. Each challenge has reinforced the resilience and dedication inherent in our mission to improve lives through better sleep.

Live Love Sleep is a comprehensive sleep consulting business that I co-founded with my wife in 2016, driven by our personal experiences and a deep passion for improving sleep health. We offer specialized sleep coaching for both babies and adults, employing evidence-based strategies to address sleep issues holistically.

Specialization: We are known for our dual approach—addressing infant sleep issues and adult sleep challenges. For babies, we provide customized sleep plans that help parents establish healthy sleep habits for their children from a young age. For adults, we focus on addressing root causes of sleep disturbances, such as stress, diet, and lifestyle, and we use my expertise as a Doctor of Pharmacy to review and optimize medication and supplement regimens where necessary.

First and foremost, I measure success by the transformations seen in our clients. When a client shifts from struggling with sleep to mastering habits that promote restful nights, the improvement in their overall health and well-being is palpable. Success is witnessing a client overcome insomnia, reduce reliance on sleep medications, or simply wake up feeling refreshed and ready to start the day.

Success is also about the extent to which I can educate and empower individuals. It’s rewarding to provide clients with the knowledge and tools they need to understand their sleep patterns and make informed decisions about their health. Each informed client who then shares their knowledge and experiences acts as a ripple in the pond, spreading the critical importance of sleep to a wider community.

On a business level, success involves creating sustainable practices that not only support our clients but also ensure the longevity and ethical integrity of our company.
