Today we’d like to introduce you to Ziggy Booker.
Ziggy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born in Dallas but moved to New York at a young age. I learned how to hustle in the hardest city to make it in. I loved music but I loved how the hustlers were winning when I was growing up. I admired Diddy, Jay-Z, Russell Simmons, and Dame Dash. I wanted to be a mogul I didn’t want to just be a rapper I wanted to have a hand in everything. I started writing poetry when we moved to New York, but I also hustled anything I could. I got in a lot of trouble growing up but it made me realize that I wanted to turn my paychecks legal. I joined the military and learned different avenues of income. Started moving towards getting income from entertainment, I sold movies and mixtapes to everybody I could. Getting my movies and mixtapes from friends from New York and making copies to sell. I got out of the military and decided that I was going to take my music and entertainment mogul dreams more serious, I’ve been working on it since then.
Has it been a smooth road?
Nobody has a smooth road in entrepreneurship, I’m no different. I’ve had setbacks but I keep pushing and going. Some of my setbacks are of my own doing and some are simply from not knowing how certain business is conducted, but that’s no excuse, I learned from them and make sure I do my research and never make the same mistake twice. I’ve learned that patience and timing is everything and no one can speed up their process you just have to go through it so I embrace it and have fun, setbacks and all.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am an entertainer in every sense of the word. I make music, I have a weekly sports show that is on Youtube called Beer 30 Sports O Clock. I also have a podcast called “Rules of da Real” and wrote the book “The Rules of Engagement: 10 Ways to Keep a Buddy. Jack of all trades if you will. I specialize in entertainment, I like letting people feel like they can get away and just be entertained or vibe out to my music and help them get through the day whether good or bad. I am most proud of setting out the goals of doing all of these things no matter how far fetched they may seem. The things that set me apart in all of these different categories is I don’t care. I don’t care about people saying it’s too much or saying you’re not famous yet you can’t do that, or you don’t have the money or time to pull off all of these things and be good at them. I don’t care about those opinions because typically they’re from people that are too scared to do their own passion or passions. I’m not I’m fearless and will continue to be so in every step of my journey.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Absolutely!! DFW is a gold mine people just have to put their head down do the work and not worry about other people in their industry. If you pick your head up and see others getting there before you applaud them, your time is coming, so put your head back down and run YOUR race. You can’t run theirs and you don’t know what they did before you saw them to get there. DFW’s entertainment world is wide open and there is so much talent out here and so much opportunity. It’s cheaper than any other major city to live in and is constantly growing. So, the only thing I would say DFW needs to do is to stay focused on winning, we all can win in whatever part of the game you want to be in.
