We’re looking forward to introducing you to Preston Corbell. Check out our conversation below.
Preston , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is a normal day like for you right now?
Right now, I am a full-time stuntman so my day-to-day life is long hours on set and traveling. It’s a fast pace, but I’m lucky to be busy.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello,
I am an actor and stuntman. I have been active in the film industry since I was 18, so for over 20 years. Film is my passion. I focus more on stunt performing rather than acting, but both are fulfilling. I am also a Doctor of Psychology specializing in sports. I use my background as a professional stuntman and education in psychology to help other professional athletes with their mental health.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I played basketball throughout my youth. I think I first felt powerful when I knew I could control my success. The more I practiced and time I dedicated to basketball, the more it paid off in games.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Being a stuntman, I have endured a lot of injuries. Ranging from broken ribs, wrists, feet, and collarbone, and I could go on and on. The thing that has kept me going and fighting through injuries is my passion. I go into stunt work knowing I will get hurt at some point. But this is something I love, and I put my body on the line for it.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
I think, as an actor in the public viewpoint, I treat my public self as a business sometimes. I go to appearances and interact online where I stay upbeat, positive, and outgoing. The real me is more introverted. However, I’m for the most part the same person, just a little more outgoing in public.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
Resilence. That I never gave up. I followed my passion and was successful in my field.
