Today we’d like to introduce you to 6two Cory
Hi 6Two Cory, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m originally from the North side of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I started my music journey with the trumpet in the 3rd grade. I went on to win multiple competitions around the city which lead me to be trained by one of the most influential black trumpet players in the Midwest “Craig Johnson”. Along with the trumpet i then picked up other instruments such as the guitar, drum set and piano. I started rapping and songwriting at the age of 13 and managed to land a song on the radio by the age of 16. Being a local success i graduated high school to set out and purse music. To further my career i moved to Los Angeles where i then ventured off into acting and screen writing as well as the music. As of now i have been in such national commercials such as, Swiffer, Honda and McDonald’s and TV series such as “Angel” and “Trapped In Lies”. Also advancing my music career with having 2 records on NBA 2K23 “Movie” & “Hustle” and also promoting my new single “Thinking About You” with my management Swan7Ent which has had major radio success thus far.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road for me especially making it out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. That alone was a crippling disadvantage mentally . Being a struggling artist/actor chasing a dream takes a lot of risks and courage. I never seen myself doing anything else besides music and film so i was willing to risk it all. That came with being alone, losing loved ones and friends and prioritizing my time for my goals. That all can be exhausting but anything for the dream,right?
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I look at myself as an all around entertainer. Not just an artist, actors, songwriter. I feel as if i do it all. Music has always been my main passion and also my gift from God. With me having a natural ear for music, picking up instruments was nothing out of my comfort zone. With writing and recording music for over 15years hoping behind the mic is now second nature for me. One thing that i say im most proud of involving my music is the knowledge that I’ve obtained on business side of the music. For the past 6 years I’ve dedicated a lot of my time to learning about the business world of music. Not only have i learned about the business, I’ve took what I’ve learned and applied that to my music. I now own my own publishing company “170M Publishing” and my indie record label “62 Cap Records” which i distribute and publish my music under. I am also looking to start a production company very soon “62 Cap Studios”. I think what sets me apart from others is that i do it all, in front and behind the scenes. I know you can’t play all the roles on your team but you can have the knowledge and insight about every role on your team that’s being played.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I grew up the only child. My parents both were into music so I’ve always been around a great taste of music. That’s what lead me to want to be a musician. Growing up i was always focused on something either it was music or sports. Me being the only child i spent a lot of my downtime practicing on what ever it was i needed to practice on that day or moment.
