Today we’d like to introduce you to Abraham Davalos.
Hi Abraham, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started in the masonry industry when I was a little over 8 years old. My uncle has owned his own company since I was little and every summer I would go to work with my dad and uncles. Did I enjoy it? Absolutely not, my uncle would pay me $20.00 a day for 8 hours and I still don’t understand that. It’s okay though because going to work at a very young age taught me so many things that I’m very grateful for. My father was working a commercial job about 3 1/2 years ago and the company was starting to get really slow which always happened when it got closer to the wintertime. I ran some of my ideas to him one day about you know starting a company together. It took him a while to finally agree on starting the company together because he was very scared about not having constant work every day. I really saw a huge opportunity that could change our lives. When we first started, I wasn’t really giving the company my full attention because at the time I was playing professional basketball and wasn’t ready to give up my dreams on the hardwood. My father quit his commercial job and believed in our company and I wasn’t paying my respect like I should have. When I finally stepped into the game with my full attention, we haven’t looked back yet. It hasn’t been all peaches and cream for us but I’m proud of what he have accomplished so far. If you’re looking for any brick, block, stone, concrete, pressure washing, or hauling services in the DFW, you have found the right team.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a very tough road on the business side of things for myself. We started this company in my early 20’s and I only knew the work side of this industry not the actual business side. I came into the industry with no knowledge on how to price a project because I grew up in this industry working. When we first started, I priced a lot of projects very cheap and lost on many projects but I knew that was the way to learn as a young owner. My father and I would argue so much on how I was pricing projects but nobody really understood that I stepped into the business side of things with no guidance or knowledge on how to successfully run a company. My father and I have had situations where it got physical on job sites because he didn’t like that we as a team weren’t making profit like we should have in his eyes but like I said before, your mistakes are your best teacher. I have had many moments that I wanted to give up on this company because I was letting my team down and losing money to pay my employees but we are here today still running. I don’t tell people these stories but why not tell you guys the behind-the-scenes of our company? We are about relationships and the only way we can build a true relationship with you is by being our authentic selves.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Our team specializes in brick, block, stone, concrete, pressure washing, and hauling services all over the DFW. We are well known for flagstone and pave stone patios but there isn’t a project that we can’t touch that has to do with masonry work. The things that set us apart from others is how much pride we take in our work. Our customers are the most important to us and we strive to provide top-rated services to each and every customer we have the opportunity to work with. Our work explains what type of company we are because how we do one thing is how we do everything and that’s to profession. I have no idea where to start on the things that I’m most proud of. I can’t believe we have made it this far because this company started with no goals or knowledge on the business side of things. I’m very proud to see this father and son company still moving forward but now with so many goals and desires that will be accomplished. We are the most hungriest than we have ever been and 2022 is the year my father and I really take over the industry respectfully.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Oh man we really digging deep into this and I like that. What was I like growing up? Let’s put it this way, I was that kid that gave my parents white hairs at a young age. I was very angry at the world for no reason and stayed in trouble everywhere I went. I blamed everybody for my actions and never cared what my consequences were going to be. My mother had to take me to therapy and sit in doctor offices for medication on my anger. Do I regret who I was growing up? I don’t regret that because it has changed my mindset and the way I carry myself today. I’m very proud of how much I have grown mentally because I cherish peace more than anything. I’m a huge believer in energy so if your energy isn’t healthy to me then I have to go about my life without you. I also take that into business because you know in the business world most people are out for success for the wrong reason and the wrong way. We will leave that conversation for another day but you get where I’m going with this right?
