Rising Stars: Meet Ahan Mukherjee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ahan Mukherjee.

Hi Ahan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started WeCare in early 2021 with the help of my friend Srinivas Dhulipalla. Initially, we framed WeCare as an organization which would exclusively support healthcare workers, but as of 2023, we have transformed to a generalized organization, donating care packages to any community in need. In 2021, we were motivated to give back to the first responders and healthcare workers who served as the foundation of society during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Both of us were interested in the medical field and felt the need to give back to the people we looked up to. That was considered our first project, where we delivered over 50 care packages over DFW to various healthcare locations. For our first project of 2023, the Refugee Relief Initiative, we created 100 care packages for a local refugee outreach center, DFWROS. Currently, we are in the process of launching our next project, which will revolve around education for the underprivileged, the Education Impact Initiative.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It most definitely has not been a smooth road. From unresponsive emails to the lack of funding, it’s truly a humbling experience. Only through community donations we were able to scrape through our first project, but it wasn’t sustainable. After our initial project in 2021, the organization sadly fizzled out due to complications of funding and our conflicting school schedules. It wasn’t until late 2022 when I decided to revive the organization to what it is today. After a vacation in Egypt, I came to terms on the conditions of life in poverty. This was an extremely grounding trip and gave me enough stimulus to restart WeCare to support the communities around Dallas. Once I returned from the trip, I got to work. First off, I recruited a few people to help us on WeCare’s mission. Taking an executive role, I recruited Bryce Lim as a Finance Lead/VP, Nooria Ali on the social media side, and Charlie Kling for outreach, while Srinivas settled a data lead position. We honed in on the flaws of our first project and built off of that.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
WeCare is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit organization dedicated to supporting organizations in need as well as underrepresented communities. Each care package is catered to the project we support, and we are always looking for potential collaborations to benefit a community with a lack of support. I think this is what makes WeCare unique. We don’t support a specific cause or organization, but we support movements and organizations which need a voice and representation. Our packages are dedicated to show people in these underrepresented communities that they are not alone and society has the ability to be kind, no matter where you come from. As an organization which is currently only supported through community donations, we would love suggestions on corporate funding as well as strategies which can promote our Non-Profit. And of course, as an organization built on collaboration, WeCare is always open to collaboration proposals to support communities on a city, state, national, and even global level.

What do you think about happiness?
In the WeCare process, I become extremely happy during the last stage of our process, the delivery. This is where I can see the direct impact of our work. It shows me that the last couple of months of writing emails, organizing fundraisers, and late-night team calls, none of it went to waste. The gratitude expressed by the leaders of our target organization is always greatly appreciated, swaying unique emotions in our whole leadership team. Overall, the steps we take to create the care packages are delicate in catering to the receivers’ needs.
