Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Cavo.
Hi Alexis, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
AssuraSource started about 12 years ago only providing in-home therapy sessions. When the pandemic hit in 2020, AssuraSource pivoted towards telehealth counseling to continue to provide mental health services to clients. Over the past 2 years, AssuraSource has grown to have over 70+ counselors on staff as well as a new president of the company, a recruiting department, finance team, scheduling, and operations team, and client relations department for sales! As the company grew, the investors knew it was time to expand the corporate office. AssuraSource now services the entire state of Texas providing mental health counseling services to whoever needs it! We also accept almost every insurance under the state of Texas as well as accept private pay.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Recently we experienced transition into a new EMR software system which with any company can be a challenge. We service nearly 500 patients per week! Meaning there was a lot of transitioning of files for patients and counselors that had to happen all while learning and training the entire company on how to use a new system while also keeping the flow of our day-to-day work.
We prepped for this time prior to this challenge to make sure that only the in-house corporate team would notice and none of our customers or counselors would be affected.
This did have an impact on our numbers, sessions scheduled, and there were a few hiccups we ran into along the way to be completely transparent. However, we did not let it affect our operations and continued to pick up the pace as time went by and we got through this transition.
We also felt as if our corporate staff built stronger relationships between each other, and we learned different techniques and ways to work together. It helped AssuraSource become more of a family.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My name is Alexis Cavo, and I am an MSW with a background specializing in Mental Health and Substance Abuse. I am the Client Relations Director at AssuraSource. To summarize my job role, I make sure that our counselors have clients to see. I work both in the office and in the field, going to different clinics, assisted living communities, organizations, expos, and whatever else I can get myself into build relationships with potential partners who will refer patients to us. We are a referral-based company and work strictly off of referrals.
Last year in 2021, we received 1,734 referrals.
This year in 2022, we received 2,306 referrals.
These are all people who have heard about us as a mental health resource and got to seek out counseling!
We believe that one person’s mental health state causes a ripple effect in the world. Therefore, the more people who utilize AssuraSource Counseling as a resource the more people in the world we are affecting to improve one’s quality of life!
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I have only been with AssuraSource for about 5-6 months, and I would have to say I have learned so much during this time period. I would say my advice for someone starting out in a business that is rapidly growing at such a quick pace to where you may have to go through an EMR transition is to be coachable. Rather than getting frustrated at change, see change as an opportunity to grow. If you are able to take constructive feedback in a way that motivates you to try new methods, you will go a lot further.
Also, I would say give yourself space to think freely and do not be afraid to fail. If you believe one way might work better than another way, have the confidence to be able to present that to your boss, the team, etc… The worst that can happen is your process gets turned down or your process is implemented but does not succeed. These can both be viewed as failure. Most people give up on their dreams and never reach their fullest potential because of the fear of failure. Failure is only a mindset. It is a signal to pivot and try going a different direction. The world does not stop when you fail. It will continue to turn and the people who have learned how to “fail forward” will pass you if you quit every time you fail.
