Rising Stars: Meet Allison Mills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Mills.

Hi Allison, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Allison Mills. I am a speech pathologist and owner of Allison’s Therapy Corner.

I earned my Master’s degree from the University of North Texas in 2015 and have worked as a Certified Speech-Language Pathologist in the school system and private practice setting. In August 2018, I felt the Lord’s prompting to begin my own practice. After months of prayer and discussion with my husband, Caleb, we felt the Lord’s peace, confirmation, and direction to quit my job in February 2019. At that point, I dove in with the support of my entrepreneurial husband to begin my own practice. In February 2019, Allison’s Therapy Corner began in my very own home, originally as Allison’s Speech Corner. God blessed the business immensely and it began to grow quickly. In September 2019, the business was blessed with the opportunity to expand out of Allison’s home to a commercial location right here in Keller, TX. With this move came not only a name change to Allison’s Therapy Corner but is also provided the ability to expand our services to offer both Speech Therapy along with Occupational Therapy.

Fast forward to today, we just finished our move to our brand-new clinic located in Fort Worth, TX. With this move came a therapy space specifically tailored to fit the needs of our clients and therapists and also an expansion of the business to open a center specifically for therapy for children with Autism (ABA therapy). The intent behind our expansion is to offer an opportunity for our parents to enjoy ease of access to the therapies their child needs, more efficient scheduling for our ABA clients, and an environment that encourages collaboration between Speech and Occupational Therapy and ABA to help generalize skills targeted by each discipline. What started out as one Speech Pathologist working out of her home has grown to 5 Speech Pathologists, 2 Occupational Therapists, 2 Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA), and several Behavior Therapy (BT)/Register Behavior Therapists (RBT). Our team truly provides exceptional client/family-centered Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and ABA services in a comfortable environment.

The goal of Allison’s Therapy Corner is to provide excellent, client-directed services in a comfortable, homey environment, providing families with more services in one great location! I have a true passion for what I do and love serving kids and their families. I am particularly proud of the therapists I have handpicked to be a part of this great team. Each therapists brings something unique to the team and was selected because of their desire to create treatment plans specifically tailored to each child, rather than therapists going through a checklist. Our team is collaborative and supportive, and has created one of the best/positive work environments you can find.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to these points should say “this point” I wouldn’t say was fully smooth…but I would not say it has been super rocky, either. Even in our most uncertain moments, my husband and I truly felt the Lord’s peace to continue moving forward. There has been a lot of prayers poured over this business as my husband and I have had to navigate financial uncertainty, growing employee numbers, COVID (which hit about 3 months after our first commercial location opened), and the desire/push we felt from the Lord to expand our services and build a new clinic. There have been many moments and are still moments where we are stepping out in complete faith that God will provide and bring favor/blessing over our business.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Allison’s Therapy Corner (ATC) specializes in providing excellent, client-specific Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Autism Therapy Services (ABA). We work with the pediatric population from ages 18 months to 15 years of age. Speech Therapy targets: expressive language, receptive language, pragmatic (social) language, articulation, fluency (stuttering), feeding difficulties, and Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC). Occupational Therapy targets: handwriting, activities of daily living, fine motor skills, play skills, sensory integration, visual motor skills, and more. ABA Therapy strives to improve a child’s communication, social skills, and daily living skills and implements behavior interventions specific to each client’s individual needs. Each service (ST, OT, & ABA) is provided one on one.

I am proud of the amazing team of therapists we have built at ATC. Each one has extensive knowledge and skills within their field of study. Our focus is how can we help this child to the very best of our ability. The quality of the services we provide is what sets us apart. Our clients make progress!!

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Personally, I think word of mouth and testimonials have greatly built and supported the reputation of Allison’s Therapy Corner. Children will receive some of the best therapy out there with our clinic. Each therapist, as well as the business as whole, will ALWAYS have their child’s best interest at heart. Our clients make progress and are successful at meeting their goals. ATC’s goal it not to keep a client forever but to help them reach their goals and use what they learn in therapy across their daily life. Graduation from therapy is the goal! Our trusted therapists “build” an intimate knowledge of our clients and their needs, provide quality therapy, and have extensive training, knowledge, and skills which truly makes a difference in the lives of the children and families we serve. The quality of therapy at ATC is different in comparison to other therapy places. Our focus is how can we help this child to the very best of our ability. We don’t provide “cookie cutter” therapy. Just take a look at our testimonials.
