Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Caubang.
Hi Alyssa , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I actually started the page @dtxadventures with my friend, Camila Ramos, a little over a year ago. At first, it was just something fun for us to do together. We spent a lot of time hanging out, and since I was already creating personal content on the side, we thought: Why not turn that into something more? We noticed that other creators were getting invited to events because of their skills in influencing and content creation, so we decided to start our own page and see where it could go.
At the time, I was on a completely different career path. I had earned my Bachelor of Science in Biology and was preparing to attend dental school with the goal of becoming a dentist. While waiting for admissions results, I worked as an orthodontic assistant, which gave me a lot of hands-on experience in the field. However, as I got more involved, I began to realize that dentistry no longer fulfilled me the way I expected it to. I often felt drained and found myself watching the clock, waiting for the day to end.
That’s when I started asking myself some important questions: Did I really want to continue working in a field that didn’t excite or inspire me? While helping others through dental care is incredibly important, I recognized that I also needed to take care of myself and pursue something that truly brought me joy. For me, that was content creation. I’ve always loved the creative process — planning, filming, editing. It feels like a form of art where I can express my personality and vision.
So, I decided to take a leap of faith. I put in my two weeks’ notice and gave myself time to explore opportunities in the creative industry while continuing to grow our @dtxadventures page. By then, our page had already started to gain traction, including paid collaborations with small businesses, which gave me the confidence to keep going.
Fast forward to September, I landed an internship at the same agency where my friend and business partner, Camila, was working. Since then, we’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with many businesses, both through the agency and as social media managers, helping them grow their presence and customer engagement through social media.
Looking back, I’m incredibly grateful for making the decision to pivot my career. It taught me that it’s okay to change paths when something no longer feels right, and that taking risks can lead to opportunities that align more closely with who you are and what you love.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like anything in life, there are always obstacles and challenges along the way—but I’ve come to see those as signs of growth and progress. Every challenge is an opportunity to learn and refine what we do.
One of the difficulties we’ve faced is taking on collaborations that didn’t align with our interests or values. Another is managing client expectations—sometimes they want quick turnarounds while still expecting high-quality content, which can be unrealistic. We’ve learned to handle these situations by setting clear boundaries, communicating openly, and understanding that it’s okay to say no when something doesn’t align with our standards or creative direction. Doing so helps us maintain our integrity, quality, and brand identity.
There are also moments when we put hours of effort into creating videos we’re truly proud of, only for them not to perform as well as we hoped. When that happens, we remind ourselves to be kind to ourselves and use those experiences as learning opportunities—to analyze what could be improved and continue evolving creatively.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I currently have multiple sources of income—one through my agency work, another from my own social media management clients, and also through our food and lifestyle page, @dtxadventures. The common thread between all of them is social media strategy and creative content development.
My expertise lies in social media management, where I handle everything from analyzing trends and developing content strategies to videography, content shoots, editing, influencer coordination, and scheduling posts for maximum engagement. I enjoy being involved in every step of the creative process, ensuring that each piece of content aligns with the brand’s voice and goals.
What sets me apart is my collaborative approach. I value teamwork and believe that the best ideas often come from shared creativity. While I maintain my own artistic vision and style, I’m always open to others’ perspectives because I believe collaboration ultimately enhances the quality and success of the content.
One of my proudest achievements is successfully transitioning into the creative industry just two weeks after leaving my job as an orthodontic assistant. That moment proved to me that hard work, adaptability, and a genuine passion for learning can open doors quickly when you’re pursuing something you truly love.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
As you may have gathered from my story about leaving my previous job, I’d describe myself as a bit of a calculated risk-taker. While my decision may have seemed impulsive at first, it was actually guided by a clear strategy and vision for where I wanted to go next.
I genuinely believe that taking risks is an essential part of achieving success. You have to be willing to step outside of your comfort zone to discover new opportunities. Risk doesn’t always have to mean something drastic—it can be as simple as trying a new creative approach, pitching an idea that’s outside the norm, or taking on a project that challenges your skills. And sometimes, it’s as significant as leaving a career that no longer fulfills you to pursue something that truly inspires you.
I speak from personal experience when I say that a little risk can lead to tremendous growth. My own journey has shown me that when your actions are driven by passion and purpose, even bold risks can turn into rewarding opportunities.
