Rising Stars: Meet Amelia Cobbs of Carrollton, TX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amelia Cobbs.

Hi Amelia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always known I wanted to be in healthcare. Learning how the body works, has always fascinated me. In healthcare the possibilities of learning are endless, challenging even. After receiving a Bachelor of Science in Biological Science the goal was nursing school, becoming a midwife to be exact. Well, as we know in life things don’t always turn out as we planned. Right before crossing the finish line, I realized I no longer wanted to pursue nursing. One day out of the blue, one of my old college roomates called me and told me she had a job as a medical technologist. Two months after that phone call, I received a position as a histology assistant. A year later I became a histology technician. Three months later I was certified as a Histotechnologist. Seven years later I was managing a pathology laboratory.

When tissue biopsies are removed from the body they are cut and placed on a micrscopic slide for review. The purpose is to diagnose or rule out cancer. All of my grandparents lost their life to cancer so I have been experiencing this terrible disease professionally and personally. I began working in dermatology and realized there was a lack of education in skincare maintenance while battling cancer. How can the largest organ in our body, who’s purpose is protection, produce terrible reactions depending on the cancer treatment given. It is understandable how oncologists main concern is riding the body of cancer. I wanted to make it my concern to help survivors with their skin. Being a lover of skincare & receiving regular facials myself battling acne as a young adult. My mission was two-fold. Help cancer survivors restore their skin through education & restoration facials and help individuals battling acne & hyperpigmenation correct their skin. Facials are therapeutic, healing, help many restore & gain confidence and quality of life.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My mission has been a slow steady climb. I still hold a full-time managment position at a pathology lab. I have my part time esthetics business, where I hold the responsibilty of doing all things to maintain and grow a business, and I am a single mom of a teenager who is actively in sports. My struggle is sleep deprivation and maintaining my sanity. I enjoy what I do, so I don’t complain, I pivot. I have to live by the motto, work smarter not harder. Prioritizing is necessary, and telling myself, there’s always tomorrow helps me not overwork myself. There are absolutely days that I don’t want to do anything business related, however the days of me wanting to succeed far outweigh the days of”not today”.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
For two decades in the pathology lab, I have been a scientist, cutting tissue and analyzing cells under the microscope. Now, I bring that hyper-focused knowledge out from behind the glass and onto the skin itself. “My superpower? Knowing tissue from the inside out—literally! “You could say I’ve trading my microtome for a dermaplane, but the mission is the same: precision healing. What sets me apart is that I’m not just an esthetician; I’m an oncology-trained skin restorer with two decades of insight into tissue health. My focus is on rebuilding skin confidence whether it’s helping a cancer survivor restore their skin’s vitality or finally clearing up an individual’s decades-long battle with acne or eczema. I enjoy watching someone’s confidence bloom the moment they see their skin transforming from something they felt they had to hide, to something they love. I’m most proud of being the final step in a healing journey—showing people that their skin, no matter its past, is ready for a beautiful, healthy future.

How do you define success?
My definition of success is simple: waking up every day to a mission I love. Doing something, I am so passionate about—turning around stubborn hyperpigmentation or restoring skin post-treatment—that it feels less like a job and more like a calling. When you’re making a real difference and achieving the mission you set out for, the financial freedom and ability to genuinely enjoy life just naturally follow.
